As I was walking up the stairs at my block of flats I kept on trying not to get my hopes up but I really did want dad in there drinking a cup of tea with mum and Grandma and Grandpa Robertson.
I slowly turned the doorknob at my door.
Grandpa and Grandma Robertson were sitting at the table talking.
"Where's mum! Where's dad!" I said, worriedly.
"Don't worry honey they're still at court," Grandma Robertson said, patting my shoulder, "Do you want some tea?"
"No thanks," I shrugged, taking a seat next to Grandpa Robertson.
"How was you're day," Grandpa Robertson asked.
"Same old, same old."
"Great!"
"I'm gonna get changed out of my school uniform," I sighed, getting up.

Once we all had our tea and got ready for bed.
We finished watching 'Ted' and just as the credits scrolled mum walked in, holding dad's hand.
"Hey," he smiled, weekly.
We all ran to give him a hug.

We stayed up till half one, hearing about how glad dad was to be home and pretty much praising him.
As I was walking to bed I thought to myself, "last night I was worrying if dad would make it home, now I was with him."

~THE NEXT DAY~
Slowly I opened one eye.
Then I realised what time it was and I shot out off bed.
I quickly checked the time, 7:41, and then I ran through to the living room.
Mum and dad were sitting at the kitchen table (their bed was still not made).
They smiled when they saw me walk through.
"Your up early," mum smiled.
"Yeah, yeah," I mumbled, "Am I going to school."
"Depends, do you want to?" mum asked.
"I'd rather spend the day with dad," I said, walking over and giving dad a hug.
"Okay then," mum said, getting up and putting on the kettle.
"So what do you wanna do today?" he asked.
"Let's got to the...," I paused and thought for a minute, then I said the first thing that popped into my head, "BEACH!"
"Great idea, let's do that. Flo can you pack a picnic and I'll alert the elderlies," dad said, getting up and disappearing into where Grandpa and Grandma Robertson were sleeping.
"I'll go and get changed," I said, about to walk into me bedroom. But I was stopped by mum.
"No so fast missy,"mum said, "breakfast!"
"Alright, what you making?" I asked.
"What do you want?"
"Just toast, not hungry," I shrugged.
"Not good enough. I'm making pancakes," mum smiled.
"Ooh, yummy. Can I go and get changed while you're at it?"
"Whatever."
I ran into my bedroom and got ready.
I put on a dark yellow crop top and denim shorts.
I slipped on my red flip-flops and put on a red cardie.
I brushed my hair out and left it down.
When I came out a sudden wiff of pancake shot my way.
"Mmm," I said, closing my eyes.
"Oh good, Julie, just in time," mum smiled, sliding a pancake onto my plate.
"Oh it looks great," I said, staring at my heavenly pancake.
I decorated it with Nutella, strawberries and sugar.
It was 100% delicious.

Once we all had our breakfast and got dressed we set off for the beach.
When we got there dad, Grandpa Robertson and I swam in the sea while mum and Grandma Robertson sunbathed.
Dad, Grandpa Robertson and I swam in the sea for two good hours.
We were panting when we came back to get dried off.
I went into one of the stalls to get changed and Grandpa Robertson and dad just stuck a shirt on.
When I came out mum had layed out the out the picnic.
There were some leftover pancakes, twelve marmite sandwiches, a box of fruit, five donuts, a big bag of crisps and tons of lemonade and coke.
"Yum," dad said, rubbing his hands together.
We all dug into our lunch.
Then we played catch with an old beach ball.
It was the perfect afternoon, we were all a family again.
Finally.
