“It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets to the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.”

“These Broken Stars is a timeless love story about hope and survival in the face of unthinkable odds.”

These Broken Stars is the first instalment in the Starbound trilogy.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT A GIRL FLYING IN SPACE AND WEARING A GREEN DRESS. That’s just the first chapter.

I honestly loved this book, it’s completely original and kept me interested the whole time. These Broken Stars is like a crossover of Titanic and Blue Lagoon (minus the nudity); Tarver and Lilac crash onto this random planet and are stranded with all communication systems down. The story only gets better.

I can’t give you a good synopsis because I know it won’t do the book justice so just READ IT!!

I honestly love the interaction between the two main characters; Tarver and Lilac. From a few chapters in the two characters hate each other and then it gets better because they are stranded on an unknown planet. alone. together. AAAAAHHHHH!!!

I’m not usually a big fan of dual POVs but Kaufman and Spooner did an amazing job and I thought it was always really interesting to hear about everything from the other’s POV.

Lilac:

Honestly, at the beginning I thought I would hate her but I grew to really love her and I honestly found her to be one of the most strong-minded and amazing female characters I have ever read about/in the perspective of. Usually when it comes to the rich I have very little patience or pity but I did really feel for her in this book.

Tarver:

I loved Tarver from the get go. Tarver is in the military and he is highly respected, everyone knows who he is. He doesn’t really fit in with society, he’s quiet and a complete bad-ass.

I loved Tarver and Lilac together from the start because Tarver had no clue who Lilac was and wasn’t afraid to speak to her compared to all the other men who wouldn’t have even dared to look at her.

When they crash land shit happens and then more shit happens and everyone hates everyone and then more shit happens and then love happens and it’s beautiful. You really should read this book.

There is also a mystery component to this novel. Is Lilac going insane or are the voices real? These parts really kept me on edge. What’s happening? Why is this happening? OMG OMG OMG!!

I can’t wait to read the next book.

Also, the cover is beautiful so there is that.

No, but seriously I need the second book.
