Cinder, Scarlet, Cress - Marissa Meyer (2012-1014)Ratings:
Cinder: 3.5/5
Scarlet : 4.5/5
Cress : 4.5
Series so far: 4.5/5
Genre: Sci-Fi
Okay let's get one thing straight Cinder = Cinderella, Scarlet = Red Riding Hood and Cress = Rapunzel.
The next book in the series is going to be called Winter and I'm getting Snow White vibes from the title.
Cinder
Cinder is really, really cool. Marissa Meyer has created a new world; a world full of cyborgs, androids and a big ball that we just have to go to!
Cinder is a really fun quick read. It starts off slow but it is totally worth it!
I normally don't go for fairy tale adaptions but Marissa Meyer has made me think again. The ending, kind of killed me a little bit inside but then I read the rest of the series (what is out so far!) and I died even more ( Scarlet will kill your feels. I swear to god I died.)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most people, when they think of Cinderella, they think of a beautiful, blonde, princess like character. Well, think again Cinder is certainly not that. Cinder is a much deeper look into the world renowned fairy tale, Cinderella. Cinder explores how Cinder lives and what she must do to provide for her family (Her stepsisters and her stepmother (good god don't even get me started on her stepmother!))
My favourite character throughout the novel is probably Iko, she is adorable, quirky and really cheeky!
Another one of my favourites would definitely have to be the Prince, Kai. He was an interesting turn on the original "prince". Kai is most certainly anything but one dimensional! He was really cool and I felt myself waiting to see him again in the pages to come. Kai is just generally a really likeable character.
I also really enjoyed the settings for Cinder; Marissa Meyer has created New Beijing. A world full of new technology and new opportunities but also a world with a terrible, life threatening disease.
Cinder is also a really fun character, she's kind of sassy and I kind of love her but not as much as Scarlet (she's from the next book)!
"I'm sure I'll feel much more grateful when I find a guy who thinks complex wiring in a girl is a turn-on."
- this was one of my favourite quotes from Cinder.
And the series only gets better...
Scarlet
Of all the 3 novels that are currently out Scarlet is my absolute favourite!
The characters are really interesting and by the end shit gets a bit more serious.
Okay, so 'Little Red' has traded her red hood for a more modern red hoodie and he basket if muffins for a handgun. Scarlet is a bit more fiery and badass than Cinder but I love them both anyway!
My favourite character is probably Wolf. I feel like by the end of the series he will have really evolved and I am so freaking excited for that!!! In Scarlet, Wolf is a quiet and adorable guy. When he's not busy being a badass street fighter, that is.
Cinder's story continues a bit in this book as well, you will soon meet Captain Thorne - he's a real flirt! Kai's story is also continued in this book, although there wasn't much of him.
Ultimately I found myself just wanting to read the scenes without Scarlet or Wolf really quickly because Scarlet and Wolf's journey was just so interesting.
Oh and yeah all the characters, so far meet up in this book as well so there's that to look forward to if you thought everything was going to be dull. It wasn't!
Cress
Okay so pretty much Cress's parents gave her away and she now works for Levana ( the witch) where she lives in her satellite in space ( the tower) and grows out her long hair, and let me tell you that girl needs a serious trim.
Cress, I found was more than she seemed to be, I wasn't sure what thought of her at the beginning, I honestly thought I wasn't going to like her but by about half way through the novel I honestly loved her.
Let me tell you there is honestly so much action in this book for Thorne, he takes on a somewhat more mature role throughout the novel and I honestly loved him for that. There were a lot of theories before this book came out about who Captain Thorne's love interest will be and I won't tell you who it is but he certainly does have one and ain't she different to the rest?!!
Thorne certainly has some troubles during his travels throughout the novel but most of them are resolved by the end and I expect the rest will be all cleared up by the end of Winter.
Oh, and by the way a lot of the stuff in this book will totally kill your feels. I mean seriously I died.
Would you like to know a thing? Yes you would. Cress was named after watercress, which is a type of lettuce, like from the original Rapunzel. SO COOL!!!!
