[ ONE YEAR AGO — 1963 ]

Eve released a content sigh as she closed the front door behind her, the woman walking into the kitchen and placing the grocery bag she was previously holding on the kitchen counter.

"Jack, I bought the green apples and carrots you asked for!" Eve called out to her boyfriend as she began to unpack the groceries.

When she didn't get an answer, Eve frowned in confusion. "Jack?"

A deafening silence filled the small house, the atmosphere quickly becoming threateningly inauspicious.

"Jack?" Eve's frown deepened as she felt a cold chill run down her spine.

When she, once again, didn't get an answer, Eve felt her heart begin to beat faster.

It was too quiet.

"Jack?" Eve asked, her voice getting quieter in fear as she began to make her way towards her and Jack's room.

She swallowed the lump in her throat as she nervously approached the room. The door was ajar, which only made Eve's heartbeat quicken in anxiety.

"Please be sleeping, please be sleeping..." Eve whispered to herself, the woman trying not to assume the worst in the situation, however the unsettling feeling in her gut began to contradict her attempted optimistic attitude.

As Eve pushed the door open, she screamed loudly, her hand flying to cover her mouth at the sight, tears beginning to stream down her face.

Her boyfriend and her dog lied unmoving on her bed, blood coating the sheets and their corpses, a sharp knife wedged inside her boyfriend's chest.

Eve ran towards the bed, the woman reaching down to cup her boyfriend's cheeks, her hands trembling. "No, no, no, no, you can't be dead, you can't be dead."

She choked out a sob as her eyes moved from Jack's lifeless eyes to his blood-soaked body, her mind racing with thousands of overwhelming thoughts.

Without thinking, Eve gripped onto the bloody handle of the knife, the woman letting out another sob as she slowly pulled the knife out of Jack's chest, her tears falling onto Jack's body.

Eve's shaky hands released the knife, the woman glancing down at her hands as the knife fell to the ground.

More tears fell from Eve's eyes at the sight of Jack's blood, which had now stained both her hands.
