we boarded the plane just in time, i was eager to get to my seat and away from James.

"oh look! we're all sitting next to each other!" Robert pointed to our tickets.

"can this get any worse?"

"aw, yay!" i plastered a fake smile onto my face.

my mind automatically started to make up reasons i couldn't sit with them.

"maybe i could act like i got food poisoning? no, then everyone would just be worried and i would ruin the trip for everyone else." that was the only excuse i could think of before we got to our seats.

i chewed on my lip, deep in thought. how was i going to survive a 13 hour plane ride between Robert and James and act like everything was fine.

"are you going to sit down?" Robert asked me.

i quickly was brought out of my trance and realized i was standing next to our row of seats.

"oh, yeah. sorry." i hurried to my seat in the middle.

"i'll be right back, i'm going to see if Bindi has my earphones." Robert said.

i nodded at him before he left.

"so are you planning to tell him? or are you just going to pretend nothing happened for the rest of our lives?" James mumbled.

"nothing did happen." i stated.

"well," James tried to debate.

"listen, i'll deal with it when we get there." i sighed, dredging that moment.

"fine, but do it as soon as possible, okay?" he pulled out a book from his bag and started to read.

i looked at him in disbelief, "i'll do it whenever the hell i want! your the one who put us in this mess, and now i have to get us out. so don't you dare tell me what to do." i harshly whispered.

he put his hands up in defense, "woah, woah! okay yes, i acknowledge that what i did probably wasn't the smartest idea,"

"you think?" I raised in eyebrow.

James rolled his eyes, "but would you rather me keep my feelings secret?"

"yes! that is exactly what i would rather you do!"

"okay so your telling me, you never once had any feelings for me?" he questioned.

"there's no way i'm talking about this with you right now." i put my earphones in.

"oh my god! you didn't deny it! i knew it." James chuckled.

"knew what?" Robert sat down.

"y/n had a crush on me." James smirked.

i looked at James, my mouth slightly ajar in disbelief. how stupid was this kid?

"no i didn't!" i quickly replied.

"well, you wouldn't be the first." Robert chuckled.

"i didn't." i turned to Robert.

"mhm, sure." Robert smiled.

i turned back to James and slapped him over the head with my hand.

"ow!" he looked to me, like he hadn't done something very stupid.

finally i got comfortable in my seat, this was going to be a long 13 hours.

*Roberts pov*

after awhile y/n and James fell asleep, which meant i could finally try and figure out what was going on between them. there has to be a reason they have barely talked to each other this whole time. plus i could tell when they saw each other at the airport y/n wasn't really happy to see him. everyone else might have believed it, but i know her better than them. not to mention when i told her James was coming on the elevator, it looked like i had just told her someone had come back from the dead. there's no way something didn't happen. i would try to figure this out on my own, but i wouldn't get very far. i needed help.

"Bindi!" i whispered while tapping her shoulder.

"wha- what?" she removed her eye-mask.

"i need your help." i crouched down beside her seat.

"Rob, if this is about the ear phones again, you literally just plug them in next to the TV screen." Bindi sighed.

"what? no, not that. it's about y/n."

"oh, what? do you need to get her present or something?"

"no! it's something more serious then that. just come on." i grabbed her hand and pulled her out of her seat.

"oh- okay."

Bindi followed me to the bar in the first-class section. we sat down at the bar stools and i began to explain what had been happening.

"hm." Bindi said after a long moment of thought.

"what?" i asked in a worried tone.

"it's just- never mind." she shook her head, like she was trying to get whatever she thought of out of her head.

"Bindi, tell me." my voice now a little more serious.

"y/n loves you very much, right?"

i nodded.

"maybe James said, or did, something, and she's trying to protect you from it."

"huh? how would ignoring James protect me? and James would never say or do something to harm me." i scratched the back of my head.

"well, maybe he didn't do something to you directly, maybe he said something to y/n? and i'm not talking about physical harm, Robert."

"still, that doesn't make sense. James is the nicest, most trustworthy of my friends, he's probably the only one i would trust with y/n. all of my other friends would probably try and steal her from me the first chance they got." i let out a chuckle.

"your right. it could be that they just haven't seen each other in so long?" Bindi shrugged.

"yeah, i thought that too, but that still doesn't make sense. they were attached at the hip last year." i fiddled with my hands in thought.

Bindi stood from her seat, "listen, your probably just tired. get some rest, then we can talk about it more when we get to the lodge, okay?"

"yeah. thanks Bindi." i smiled softly.

"no problem." she ruffled my hair with her hand.

i stayed at the counter a little while longer thinking over everything. something didn't add up. something must have happened between now and then.
