"Come on Emily! Get ready fast! Wear this." My mother huffs angrily, thrusting the corset and a newly bought fancy gown in my hands.

"But why do I need to wear this!? " I ask throwing my hands in the air, blowing the hair out of my face.

You are probably confused as to what is happening right now. Let's go a few hours back.

Time rewind

"Martha! Children! Come downstairs I have some news for you all!" My father, Thomas Becker, a lawyer, screams from our entrance.

"Father! You are back! " My sister squeals in delight throwing herself in our fathers arms only to be pushed away.

"Get away from me Elizabeth." He grunts out. I pull Liza towards myself hiding her now red sobbing face from him and giving him a glare of my own.

"Don't you dare glare at me Emily! And cast your eyes at my foot not in my eyes! This is not how ladies are supposed to behave. Martha have to not taught your daughter anything!? " His voice booms in the entire house sending a terrifying shudder in all our bodies.

My mothers comes in the living room greeting us all with her presence. "Yes dear? What was that you wanted to tell us all? "

"Oh yes I almost forgot because of these ants. As I was saying I have a news for all of you. This year again, that is in exactly 4 hours the annual ball is going to be held and this time our family is invited too." My fathers gleams showing his yellowish teeth.

"Oh -oh that's great dear!" I turn to my mother only to be greeted by a sad face that only I can recognise.

"Make sure to dress up both our daughters and specially Emily. " He says pointing towards me.

I throw mother a terrified glance but she just brushes it off like it's nothing.

You see, the annual ball dance is when young, delicate girls like me are sacrificed to marriage even if they don't want to at the age of 22, they are supposed to feed the family, clean for them and increase their generation. The attraction of the ball is Alexander Chester, a very successful and rich bachelor. So handsome that every woman wants him even if she's married. Honestly I have never actually seen him.

I, being the rebel in the family, as always, am against it and actually want to live my dreams. I have a dream to become a writer. Yes I write and am very interested in romantic books.

For now I have to come up with a plan as soon as possible. I don't want to get married at such an early age.

My mother grabs both of mine and my sister's hand and drags us to our rooms, first going with my sister and telling me she'll be back with my dress in a bit.

After an hour and a half she comes back rushing in with a bag and oders me to stand up to do the make up and hair.

I hate this. Literally what is the use of caking your face? Do you not believe that you are pretty? And if u really want a make up just put a thin layer of it. If you so much want your face to look like a cake then buy one and smack it on the face simple! But is this poking really required!? She actually poked me twice in my eye for goodness sake! (N/A I am not against people who like to do makeup even I like it)

After all the yanking given to my hair and poking I am released. I thought this was never going to be over I think as I release a sigh.

"Come on Emily! Get ready fast! Wear this." My mother huffs angrily, thrusting the corset and a newly bought fancy gown in my hands.

"But why do I need to wear this!? " I ask throwing my hands in the air, blowing the hair out of my face.

It's a very beautiful gown (picture in the beginning) I'm not going to deny that but I would prefer wearing pants *which ladies aren't allowed to wear* today for my plan that is to escape also they are very comfortable and look as ugly as possible so no one will like me. But guess what I am looking pretty! Yay me.

If you didn't notice, that was sarcasm.

While I was busy debating in my mind my dear mother brought me sandles with heals! Is she trying to plan her daughter's death!?

Let me tell you something. I. Can't. Walk. In. Heels!

"I am not going to wear those things mother! " I say glaring at the sandles.

"Enough of the drama Emily! You are going to wear these and attend the ball and that's final no if and but. " She replies in a stern voice.

After a lot of efforts I finally reach the carriage that father asked for and climbed in grumbling all the way to the ball.

Hope my plan works or if it doesn't goodness please let these heels be my death.
