When Keigo woke up the next day, he found himself lying alone in bed. He sighed, turning to bury his face into his boyfriend's side of the bed. He hummed as he took a deep breath, inhaling his scent. He smiled, his heart fluttering. He said nothing at all. He could have stayed in bed all day long if not for the obscene ringing from his phone. He groaned weakly, sitting up and turning it off. He whimpered as soon as he saw that the call was from the commission. Recluctantly, he put on a brave face and picked up.
"H-heyyo, this is Hawks!"Keigo squeked. He tried his best not to sound afraid. On the other end, Ms. Gaelan sighed, raising an eyebrow.
"I was wondering what was taking you so long. I have been calling you for hours now. What have you been doing?" She snapped. The blonde hesitated a bit, chewing weakly on his lower lip. His heart was pounding hard in his chest as he just sat there for a bit with the phone pressed up against his ear. He swallowed softly, forcing himself to give a little smile.
"Sorry Ma'am, I couldn't risk things. I didn't know if the league had been following me or not. I just had to do a once-over with my feathers just to make sure. that there was nothing. Sorry..." Keigo rambled. He rubbed his arm weakly as he tried to calm himself. He felt his heart beating fast. He could practically feel the ghost of Dabi beside him. For a fraction of a second, the image of his boyfriend morphed into that of a handsome young man with crystal blue eyes and a messy head of long curly purple hair. A lump formed in Keigo's throat.
"You really gonna lie to our handler, Songbird? I guess I'll see your new boo when he gets over here. Don't worry, I'll keep him company," Keigo's composure started to slip just a fraction, and he let out a shaky gasping breath.
"I-it's fine now. My apartment's all clear. I was actually about to head out to see the league. No planning for today, but I just wanna earn their trust, you know," He could practically see the president raising an eyebrow on the other end of the line. He started to chew harder on his lip, praying to whatever deity was out there that they would just let it slide for now.
"Fine, just whatever you do, don't get attached. You know what you're there for. It would be most opportune if you could bring one of them to our side. Many of their quirks are very strong. They could make for some auspicious quirk marriages. Tomorrow, I want you to report to me here at HQ first thing in the morning. I want as much information as you can gather, understand?" She asked. Keigo's blood ran cold at the mention of quirk marriages, but he held his tongue as best as possible.
"I understand, Madame President, I-I'll see you tomorrow then," He said. As soon as the call ended, Keigo practically slammed his phone onto the bedside table and hid his face in his hands with a loud groan. He stayed like that for a few minutes before he mustered up the strength to get up and head to his closet.
"Quirk Marriage... How could she be thinking about quirk marriages? You can't just force someone to marry a person just for a quirk!" Keigo said to himself as he pulled on a random black shirt. He stopped to look at himself as soon as the shirt was on, his eyes immediately drawn to his chest. He wrapped his arms around himself, hoping to hide the hem of the binder that he had on. Staring at himself in the mirror, Keigo ran his hands down his body, softly tracing the still present curves. Quickly, he pulled on a pair of khakis and a baggy jacket. It wasn't long till the young hero arrived at the league's hideout.
As soon as Keigo entered the hideout, he was knocked to the floor by a squealing Toga.
"Oooh, Birdie's back!" Toga giggled, holding him tight and nuzzling him, "What took you so long? Kurogiri made pancakes!" Keigo smiled, wincing a bit in the teen's surprisingly strong grip.
"Woke up late, Vampazoid, now could you maybe not squishing me. My wings feel like they're about to snap," Keigo chuckled a bit. He squirmed, giggling softly. He couldn't help but worm one of his arms out of the vice grip to softly hug the little teen. Shigaraki laughed, a bit, trying to prise Toga off.
"That's enough, sis, don't squish him, all tight? We need him," Shiggy said. He giggled, even more as the little blonde girl clung even tighter to Keigo.
"Thanks a bunch, crusty, but I think that she's got me tied down," Keigo laughed, squirming even more. The rest of the league burst out laughing the more Toga nuzzled Keigo. It took a few minutes, but Twice eventually pulled the giggling teen off of the hero.
"C'mon now, wifey, don't squeeze the chicken," Jin laughed, holding Toga back. Keigo grinned, rubbing his wings as he sat up.
"Mind controlling your wife, Twice? I'm waaay too young to die." Keigo teased playfully, nudging the taller man. The two of them burst out laughing even harder. Dabi watched the two of them from the corner of the room, dead silent. He smiled gently, but it didn't match his eyes. Twice brought Toga and Keigo over to the bar where he sat Toga on one of the stove, still not letting her go to avoid her squishing the bird-man to death. Big sis Mag flashed Keigo a soft smile from where she was sitting on the couch. Keigo smiled back, waving. He made a mental note to talk to her later on.
After eating a stack of pancakes with Toga and Twice, Keigo headed over to where Dabi was, gently taking his hand.
" Hey there, hotstuff, when did you get here? My bed was so cold without you in it," He hummed. He wrapped his arms around Dabi's shoulders with a bright smile on his face; he missed the way that his boyfriend trembled in his arms. Dabi swallowed thickly and shifted a bit.
"I left real early. You know I like to run in the mornings," Dabi chuckled, "Also, is that one of my hoodies that you've got on?" Keigo grinned, cuddling more into the distressed navy blue hoodie as a little laugh bubbled up in his throat. For a moment, it was easy to forget that the two of them were on the opposite sides of a war.
"No babe, this is mine now," Keigo sighed. He rested his head on Dabi's shoulder happily. " You know that baggy clothes are real comfy. I couldn't resist it." Dabi didn't say much more, just leaning into Keigo's hold. Keigo's smile flickered for just a moment. He felt... cold without Dabi's arms around him, but he didn't say anything. He just closed his eyes, relishing in just being with him. Suddenly, a pale crusty hand grabbed Keigo's arm with its long bony pinkey raised, dragging him away from the older man.
"Hey Chicken wing, come play some Smite with me! You can canoodle with your crush later. I'm bored," Shiggy said. He smiled brightly. Keigo laughed and shrugged a bit, smiling weakly at Dabi. Dabi watched as the two of them walked away. As soon as they were gone, the pyromaniac sighed, frowning a bit.
"Don't take too long..." He mumbled, his eyes not leaving the two of them for a single moment. He chewed his lower lip a bit, quietly. He felt bile rising up in his throat as he watched them. Keigo was smiling and laughing with Shigaraki. Just as Keigo died in the game, he felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. He paused and got up.
"I'm just gonna be right back, okay? BRB," Keigo chuckled as he went to a more private area. He let out a whimper, terrified as he answered the call.
"H-Hello? Ms. President, Y-you need me to come in?... Now?"
