Andrew's POV
We went back to my pad after dinner. Ella was in a drunken stupor -but nothing like those crazy women who spill out their dark secrets, just lots of really inappropriate moaning sounds coming from her.
I set her down gently onto the couch. Sue me for not choosing my bedroom, but I wasn't about to do this to her when she's in this state.
I plugged my phone into the charger and watched with satisfaction as the green battery juice trickled in and lit up my home screen.
I froze when I caught sight of my wallpaper. When the hell did I even like Christian Bale?
I scrolled through the apps. Kik? Snapchat? Instagram?
This was not my phone.
My mind whirred. How did this phone end up in my hands? I mentally cursed myself for being so careless as to not recognise my own phone up til this point. I should've put on the phone cover Ella got me even though it wasn't to my taste.
I dialed my number.
'Hello?' I said cautiously.
'Hey. ' a husky voice answered.
'Hi, may I know who I'm speaking to?'
'You're the one calling, silly. ' the recipient giggled.
'Yeah I know, but it's my number I'm calling. I think we switched phones. '
'Oh. '
'Yeah... um, can we meet tomorrow morning, like real early? I'm sorry, I really need my phone.'
"Yeah sure thing. Can we meet at my workplace? You know Buzzfeed? It's near -'
'You work at Buzzfeed? I do too, ' I said incredulously.
'Omg! Who are you?'
'Andrew. The new guy. Sorta. '
'Omg! It's Ashly! '
'Ashley?! Wow, how did this even... '
'I think we bumped into each other in the restaurant!' Ashly exclaimed, sudden realisation dawning on her.
'Oh. ' Andrew smacked a hand on his forehead and instantly regretted it. 'Of course. Um, one question. Did you get any text? '
'Uh, I didn't use your phone after we left the diner.' Ashly said.
'Help me check?'
A few seconds later, Ashly spoke up.
'Hmm yea, you got a text from an unknown number saying you won a trip blabla. I'll delete it. I can't stand scams . '
'No wait! Don't! Stop, ' I blurted out. 'It's legitimate. Ella & I filled out a form when we ordered in the diner and I guess we actually won. ' I said, feeling dazed.
'Oh. Well anyway, that's the only text you've got.' Ashly mumbled.
'Ok, thanks Ashley. See you tomorrow. ' I muttered and quickly hung up.
Curiously gnawed at me as I absent mindely stared down at her phone.
Should I? No, it was wrong. But it would be interesting.
It suddenly struck me that her Christian Bale wallpaper meant she had replaced it with the selfie I took with her. Ah well, no biggie. What did you expect, Andrew?
A wave of lethargy hit me suddenly and I sighed, I curling up beside Ella and slipped into a dreamless sleep almost instantly.
Ashly's POV
"Since when did we get a new intern? With such fabulous hair too?" Eugene raised an eyebrow at me first thing next morning.
"Haha," I rolled my eyes. "But you like it?" I said hopefully.
"If I had a crush on Rihanna," he flicked my hair onto my face playfully.
"It's-"
"Hey."
I whirled around. "Oh hey Andrew!"
"Um, your phone. Nice hair by the way," he said, a slight flush riding up his neck.
"Thanks, and here." I handed him his phone. An electric tingle shot up my fingers and I drew back quickly.
"By the way, we have to shoot the next video later." Andrew said uncomfortably before walking off.
"Is it just me, or is there some tension in this room?" Eugene sniffed the air. "Ashly..."
"What."
"I don't think I'm in the position to say this, but." The usual upbeat and smiley Eugene was on serious mode.
"But what?"
"I think you like Andrew."
Andrew's POV
I swear I didn't mean to eavesdrop. But seeing Eugene being so pally with Ashley made an unpleasant sensation rise up within me. I know Ashley's always very casual around everyone, but I felt like she was really close to Eugene now and he was trying too hard to make her like him. I mean, she even went to the extent of altering her looks. Just when I thought I'd get used to her long black hair and naturally pink lips, she went to put all that chemical and artificial stuff onto her face. Not that it affected me. Much.
Let me just say again for the record- I did not eavesdrop. I just so happened to have walked out of sight and was bending down to tie my shoelace when Eugene dropped the bombshell on her and I almost tripped over my shoelace.
"Eugene." Ashley said in a measured tone. "Andrew has a girlfriend."
"That doesn't mean anything. But if there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that there's something special between you two. '
'Thanks for telling me. ' Ashley said calmly. 'But I think I know where my feelings lie. '
I stood up abruptly and a dizzying sensation took over me. I gripped at the edge of a computer chair, which promptly shifted on its wheels and I came crashing down.
Smooth.
'Woah, you Ok there? ' Ashley's head popped up from behind the desk.
'Yeah. Just being clumsy, nothing new, ' I mumbled.
'By the way, I wanted to ask you something,' Ashley said.
'Yeah?'
'I got an extra ticket to a Simple Plan concert, but not sure if you are free, or up to it?' She waved a ticket in her hand.
'No way, I love them! ' I said genuinely.
'Great. It's a date then,' Ashley grinned. ' I mean, yknow. Um. It's just two days away. So. See you then.' She scooted off.
Her words lingered in my ears.
It's a date.
A/n: Hope you're having a good Monday! I can't wait for Wednesday to come because I will only have a half-day at school, then a 4 day weekend due to Chinese New Year! (:
