Wreckage

CHAPTER THREE

(the sun shone lazily through the window of Jimmy's room. He sat up slowly as he heard his daughters running around).

JIMMY: who could have make them so happy. ( He asked himself aloud. He gets up and walk lazily to the living room and saw to his amazement his daughter in the kitchen helping and speaking happily with lyanna who has come to help the girls get ready for the journey which will take place that day. He stood in the door way for sometime watching his girls in the kitchen from where he stood and then Lesley turn and saw him)

LESLEY: daddy ( came the happy voice ,she ran to him) is it true we are going to a party?

JIMMY: party? ( He repeated looking confused)

LESLEY: yeah. Aunty lyanna said her mom want to hold a party and we all will go together.

JIMMY: ( nodding as he understood what his daughter was saying) I guess you will go together.

LESLEY: you ain't coming? (Asked anxiously).

JIMMY: baby I got some work to do at the office.

LESLEY: you will be here when we got back?

JIMMY: yeah ... I will.

LESLEY: ( grin broadly) promise?

JIMMY: promise ( he caress her chin with the tip of his thumb then walk to the kitchen. Lesley following him) good morning

AVA: good morning daddy ( she move to him and Jimmy bent down to Peck her then straighten up and smile at lyanna)

LYANNA: coffee? ( She ask as she smiles back)

JIMMY: yeah please.( Watch her intensely as he admired her tiny waist... Looking slowly at her neat smooth leg. His daughter's question jerk him back to reality).

AVA: daddy you won't go with us to the party?

JIMMY:( glance at lyanna for help) I ... ( Turn to Ava) I can't sweetheart I got some works to do

LYANNA: ( chip in quickly as she handed the coffee to Jimmy) baby your dad has much work to do that he will have to stay behind to do it.

AVA: we won't be back today right ?

LYANNA: ( nodding) yeah baby. The party will be so much fun that we won't want to leave it behind.

AVA: ( giggle at the thought of party then stop immediately and look at Jimmy) you will be fine?

JIMMY: ( taken aback slightly by her question) I guess I will.

AVA: (sense his confusion) I mean without your girls with you .

JIMMY:(surprise at her revelation. He glanced uneasily at lyanna and look back at Ava) I will because I know you will be fine with lyanna

LESLEY: then we should start packing (she ran off to her room and Ava follow her leaving lyanna and Jimmy in the kitchen).

JIMMY: (sip his coffee slowly) thanks for coming here so early. It means a lot to my girls.

LYANNA: don't mention ( turn her back to him and got busy with the cutlery then turn back hastily).the girls complain to me about a girl in their school

JIMMY: oh ( glance away guiltly) yeah. They told me about her

LYANNA: what's your solution to that?

JIMMY: ( look at her) I don't know. Getting married is off my schedule

LYANNA: it's been long your wife died Jimmy, she would love to see you happy.

JIMMY: ( bow down his head to hide his affection) I guess she will and you on the other hand have not remarry after you divorce

LYANNA: well ( turn to her previous task) I got a man whom I admire.

JIMMY: ( visibly taken aback as he heard this . He was grateful lyanna has not seen him or else she would have found out how sad her news make him ) you never introduce me to him ( trying to keep his voice calm and trying hard to keep the conversation even)

LYANNA: well I will when the time is right

JIMMY: okay

LYANNA: ( turn to him seriously) should I show up at their school and shut the girl up?

JIMMY: ( look at her for a moment before shooking his head) no , Lesley needs a mom who will shut the girl up everyday but you can't. You have your affairs to worry about and all. I won't take advantage of your kindness. You are a good neighbour lyanna and I can't thank you enough ( they heard the kids arguing) I got to check on them ( take a long sip at his coffee and put the cup on the counter before walking out to check on the girls. Lyanna turn slowly and continues her task )

LYANNA: he won't take advantage he says. How could he be so blind to the love I have for him.
...

(They had breakfast which lyanna cooked ... Minutes later lyanna was ready to go )

LYANNA: Jimmy I think it's time to start the journey.

JIMMY: yeah you are right

LESLEY: which car are we going to ride in ?

LYANNA: mine . It's packed outside

AVA: can I go check on it?

LYANNA: of course but that's after you get ready for the journey.

JIMMY: give me some moments to get them ready .

( Jimmy emerge with some bags and lyanna received them from him but he declined, they all went out and Jimmy place the bags gently in the bonnet where lyanna's luggage was and carried the girls into the back seat . He settled them well and gave them each a peck)

LESLEY: I will miss you daddy

AVA: me as well

JIMMY: I know... You should be a good girls.

AVA: I will

LESLEY: I promise to be good daddy ... When I'm I getting new mommy by the way?

JIMMY: ( sign) Lesley not now. ( He closed the door and turn slowly to lyanna who has been watching him with his girls ) drive safely lyanna

LYANNA: I will and i will keep them safe

JIMMY: I know you will. (he close in on her and for a second stare at her pretty face before pulling her closer and hug her. He pull away slowly regret on his face then he step aside and lyanna got into the car and pull out thus starting the journey to her mom's town with the kids of the man she love but never have the courage to tell him).
