chapter 16- g e t u p
I stayed in Mateo's room for the next week. I couldn't move or think. I didn't bathe or eat. I just laid there. With Mateo. He didn't dare leave my side and I was grateful for that, I don't know what I would've done if he wasn't here. Every night was just passing over period for me, it just became more real. The feeling of knowing that she was dead. All these years that I had spent hating her because she left me, but when it came to see her one last time on my phone, I felt like I could have a second chance.
But when I woke up on Monday morning, I stared towards the ceiling while Mateo was saying some words that I couldn't hear since I was too involved with my own thinking. My mother wouldn't want me to be like this, she wouldn't want me to sit on the bed, thinking about other ways to save her when we both knew it was too late. She would've wanted me to fight for her, to not give up and let my wall down. She would want me to be the proud daughter who didn't hesitate to kill anyone who fucked her over.
And that's what I'm going to be, I am going to kill Lorenzo and Igor and I'll make sure they'll personally get sent to hell.
"Get up," I said to Mateo who was beside me and he looked as if I was crazy.
"Mal--"
"Up Mateo," He stood off the bed and I also stood up, watching him stand in front of me.
"I want you to go to Sienna and call an emergency meeting, tell her it's about Igor and Lorenzo, and to shut down any working cameras and microphones in there." I walked towards the bathroom and Mateo looked as confused as I expected to be.
"What type of crazy shit are you going to do now?" I smiled and walked up to him, and did something that I thought I'd never ever do to another human being.
I hugged him. He looked taken aback for a second, probably because I smell like mosquitoes have pissed on me, but he hugged me back tightly. "I'm just doing the job we were meant to do ever since we got here asshole." I pulled back, smiling at him.
"Glad to have you back, Maliyah, I was really starting to miss you calling me an asshole every chance you got." He stood by the door, his hands sitting on the handle.
"And I missed not being able to call you one." I closed the bathroom door, looking at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was tangled up at the bottom and my eyelids looked like they had their own graveyard. I did kinda look bad, but there's nothing bad in a bit of change.
So I cut my hair, I've been wanting to do it. But I couldn't really do it, I was too afraid of what people would say. Imagine that coming from an assassin, crazy.

A couple of gasps emerged when I entered the room and I brought myself to look at them with Valentina coming straight at me. "Hair looks amazing, you did this by yourself?" I nodded and I could almost feel a blush appearing on my face. I had cut my hair just above my shoulders but it looked too plain and boring so I got myself some bangs, curled the rest of my hair, and brushed it out a little.
I felt confident in it.
"Alright Mal, what did you call us in for?" Diego smiled at me and I could already feel myself bubbling with excitement.
I took a breath before looking at everyone who was patiently waiting for me. "I was meant to die in that fire,"
"Mal--"
"No, not like that," I interrupted Val and she nodded, easing back into her seat, "It was meant to lure me in, so I could die. Two days ago, I found Lorenzo untying one of three prisoners from the gala, but he convinced Sienna and Val that it was just a mistake, probably saw something else and I believed it for a second; till he texted me this," I took my phone out and gave it to them to look at and they each passed it down to the person next to them which eventually made its way back to me.
"Oh my gosh, I never--how did he even?" Sienna looks just as confused and ashamed as Val did but I wasn't blaming them, Lorenzo had a good way of convincing people and he never gave it away in his facial expressions.
"It's okay, it wasn't your fault, the only thing we should focus on is trying to find out where exactly he's hiding because it doesn't take two fucks to know he's working from Igor."
"I think they're both looking for something," Luca speaks up dragging our attention from us, "I mean we said that in the beginning but what if they're looking for something, maybe someone instead." Everyone turns back to me and I looked down trying to make sense of it when it finally popped into my head.
"He's looking for me.."
"Nah, I think he just wants you dead." Diego comments and I give him a glare which causes him to turn towards the window.
"Diego isn't wrong, why else would he want you there?" Luca asks and I nod, trying to think of a way we could figure out more.
"We have to sneak in one of his offices," Mateo speaks up, helping me out, "To find out what he wants, he must have some information there," Everyone else nods in agreement.
"He has an office about two hours from here, but looking at it it's heavily guarded, it's going to be quite a task." Sebastian comments from behind his screen.
"But it isn't impossible?"
"Nope, with planning, we should be able to get in," Luca responds.
"So when's the earliest we can get in?" Mateo asks and we all look towards the couple who were now staring back at us.
"Today if we're smart."
