Aidan shifted his attention to the person standing before him. "Oh, it's just you."

Aidan nodded as he scooted away from his spot to make room for the friend.

"So how've you been, Ness?" He said as he focused solely on her.

Truth is, Aidan had a bit of a crush on his friend Vanessa. They've been friends for almost 4 years now and it seems as though they are both oblivious to each other's feelings for one another. Vanessa Reynolds; She was very popular in middle school and was a straight A student who never showed her flaws. She was a honey blonde with pale freckles that danced among her cheeks. Although she had been very smart, the thing Aidan liked most about her was her personality. She'd always go out of her way for a friend or family member. Even if it meant her own reputation would be put on the line.

"Not the best, actually." She sighed. "My parents decided to transfer me to an academy, which provided a very blunt letter, so we may not be able to see each other during school hours."

Aidan pulled at the strings of his hoodie to hide his small grin but yet, it was still noticeable.

"What are you smiling about, dunce?" She scoffed.

He pulled the collar of his hoodie back down and reached into his pocket. As he pulled out the same letter that she had received, she had begun to grin as well.

"That's a relief." She softly punched his arm and giggled. "I thought I'd have to make a whole new friend group but now I have you as the first member."

Taken aback, Aidan jumped slightly in his spot as he looked away and covered his face with his hands. 'Embarrassing.' He could just feel the glowing red fill the exterior of his cheeks. He attempted to compose himself while Vanessa had been distracted by the color filled leaves falling from a nearby tree.

"I wonder what it'll be like. Y'know, a whole new school that we don't even know that much about." She turned to face him once more. "Do you think we'll be able to meet anyone?"

Aidan looked down and his hands returned to his pockets.

"Of course. A new school means new opportunity." He spoke out while returning to meet her gaze.

"Yeah, you're right." She nodded.

Aidan yawned. Because of the whole letter situation, he hadn't been able to get much sleep. Vanessa had instantly noticed his sleepy composure.

"If you're tired, you can go ahead and take a nap now if you'd like." She smiled softly. "Just so that you won't have to go back to that home of yours for a little while longer."

Aidan tilted his head as she nodded once more. Given the fact that he had been running on almost only three hours of sleep, he took her offer. He slouched slightly in his spot as Vanessa scooted a bit closer to him. She tapped her shoulder lightly. His body felt fatigued and decided that it'd be best to lean against her shoulder. So, he did.

"Dummy," Vanessa yawned and placed her head on his, slowly drifting off into her slumber.

...

"Aidan, look at me!" A boy cried out.

Ear piercing screams could be heard from the crowd above. Everyone was sent tumbling. Bumping into each other; ramming one against another. Until everything went dark.

"Shit! Damn i-" No matter how much he wanted to hear what they had to say, the world was still hushed.

Where did it all go wrong?

...

Gasping for air, Aidan rose from his nightmare. He turned his attention to the girl now peacefully resting against his legs.

'What the hell was that?' The brunette thought to himself as he shifted in the grass.

He gently brushed the female's loose strands of hair to the side and tucked them behind her ear. She really was beautiful. Aidan attempted to calm himself as he took her hands and set them between his own. Who was that boy in his dream? Where was Vanessa?
