And there she was, stepping on the rooftop of Gansevoort hotel. The rooftop bar was crowded as any other evening, with one of the best Dj's spinning music and making everyone dance. Adriana walked straight to the bar, without hesitating, ordering her favorite drink - Mojito while looking for her "new guy". Where was he, she wondered. She had never seen him, except on pictures, but what if he wasn't the guy from the pictures, what if he didn't come. Adriana always had her head full of questions. But there he was, walking straight towards her, looking nowhere else but in her eyes. And she knew it was him.
"You are prettier than I thought." said Vincent as he came close to kiss her cheek.
"Hi." was all Adriana could say. She was hypnotized by his confidence, by his voice, and his eyes.
"Umm, hi! What are you drinking?" he asked as he turned toward the bartender for a, "one Kamikaze please."
Adriana was still standing still, unable to reply. "Adriana? Are you alright? I am Vincent." he looked at her confused.
"I, I, I am sorry. I was just...Nice to meet you! You look great." She raised her glass, throwing away the straw, drinking as much she could. "Cheers!"
"Cheers!" said Vincent, grabbing his drink and leaving it half empty.
"I am glad we finally met, I thought it was going to take you a year to ask me out. Hope you don't mind." Adriana was getting back to normal.
"Hey, I was going to ask you out! Let's go sit over there." he pointed to a table where a couple was leaving. Adriana followed him, as he kept his hand on her bare back.
"When? I don't get guys! Why is it so hard to ask a girl out?" Adriana bombarded Vincent with questions.
"Uhhh what did you say you are drinking again?" they both laughed. Adriana knew she was being harsh, but her feelings were taking control and the drink was not helping at all. "I think women expect too much from men, and men expect too much from women. There is no balance, actually there can't be a balance, so it always end up one of the sides giving more than the other. In this case it happened to be you, but don't worry I'll catch up. This is just the start." explained Vincent, sipping his drink, not taking his eyes off Adriana.
"Sounds fair." she crossed her legs, as if saying the message was not completely satisfying, but it worked for now.
"So I guess you have a lot of experience...dating?!" questioned Vincent.
"Experience is not the right word. I like to date people, I am trying to find the right guy and I don't like to waste my time waiting and waiting, I just don't believe in faith. I think it is all up to me to build my future." said Adriana.
"I see..." said Vincent before being interrupt.
"Heyy Vincent! What are you doing here." the familiar voice of Dan echoed across the rooftop, making everyone around to turn. "Why didn't you call or text, to say that you were coming here tonight?" his question made no sense when his gaze turned to see beautifully sitting Adriana. "Oh, because you had a date, ok I see." Dan could not stop staring at Adriana.
"Hi, my name is Adriana. Nice to meet you." said Adriana as she stood to shake her hand with Dan.
"Noo, lady like you should not bother to stand, please." and he knelt to kiss her hand. Dan could be too much at times, but at least he tried.
"Sorry Adriana, this is my stupid friend, Dan." said Vincent as he pushed Dan with his hand to back up. "It was nice seeing you Dan, talk to you later." he tried to wink at Dan as if to leave them alone, but Dan was not even looking at him, he was too busy observing Adriana.
"Do you mind if we join?" asked Dan.
"We?" exclaimed Vincent turning to see who else he meant. And there was Brat, and some other friends.
"No, not at all." responded Adriana. Her mother taught her to always be nice to people. But she did mind, she wanted to have some time with Vincent, to get to know him.
"Great! Drinks on me." shouted Dan as he turned to see where the waitress was.
The night continued with lots of drinks, loud music, dancing and a taxi back home. Adriana once again entered her building alone.
