Adriana could never decide what outfit to put on, even if it was just to go out to the grocery store. However, she loved clothes and she had plenty of them, maybe that's why it was such a hard decision to make. Finally she grabbed one of her tight-long-to-knees beige skirt, black see-through shirt and matching black high heels. Adriana had to always match something in her outfit, to avoid looking like a rainbow. Shoes and shirt seemed just fine to her. She let her long thick black hair fall on her shoulders, adding little makeup and spraying her favorite Victoria's Secret fruity fragrance. Just as she was getting ready to leave, her phone rang.
"Hey Lindsay, I am on my way." said Adriana, trying to close the door with one hand, while holding her husky inside, and her bag and phone with the other hand.
"I was just calling to tell you that I'll wait inside Alice's Tea Cup." said Lindsay. Alice's Tea Cup was a place that Adriana and Lindsay found on the Upper East side after having their nails done last week.
"Ok, ok, see ya." said Adriana and quickly shut the phone, freeing one of her hands. She managed to close the door and run down the stairs, hearing her little husky barking and scratching the door. Adriana lived on the 5th floor by herself, and Bruno, her dog was the only one to save her from loneliness.
After 15 minutes of driving from her apartment to the place, Adriana easily found a place to park her red Mini Cooper. It was early Monday morning and the girls had took a day off from work to catch up with all the gossip.
"I'll just have one blueberry scone and one with ham and cheese, and.., oh here she is! Hi Adriana," Lindsay stood, kissing Adriana on both cheeks.
"Hey, what are we ordering." asked Adriana taking a quick look at the menu and turning to smile at the waitress.
"Well, I am having two scones and ice tea, with lime please." smiled Lindsay and handed back the menu to the waitress.
"And for you miss?" asked the waitress.
"I'll have french toast, and just a cold water for now. Thank you." she handed the menu and turned to look at Lindsay as if they haven't seen for years. "It's so hot today! I am sweating!" exclaimed Adriana.
"Oh my God, Adriana I have to tell you something!" whispered Lindsay, with her eyes wide open as if it was the biggest secret in the world.
"What is it?" asked Adriana lowering her voice and coming close to Lindsay to hear the news.
"Soooo, James and I..."it took one second for Adriana to find out what she had to say, after she saw the diamond ring on Lindsay's hand.
"You got engaged!" Adriana interrupted, taking Lindsay's hand to examine the ring. "Oh my God! Congratulations honey! I am so happy for you" she hugged Lindsay tight. "I didn't get you a present, when did this happen? Tell me everything!" demanded Adriana, putting her black Prada bag on the chair next to her, to make space for the waitress to put their order.
"He proposed me last night at his apartment. And I am moving in today, I am so glad I took a day off! Isn't it pretty?" she asked, taking a look at her ring.
"Congratulations!" the waitress said, putting the scones and the french toast on the table.
"Oh thank you! thank you!" said Lindsay, smiling proudly.
The information was a bit too much for Adriana who was trying to hide the sadness from her best friend. She grabbed the cold water that did not seem as cold as she wish it was. She was burning from inside.
"Excuse me is the A.C. on? asked Adriana
"Yes miss, but I can ask the manager to make the room cooler for you." said the waitress and left.
"Are you okay?" asked Lindsay, looking nervously at Adriana. She knew that Adriana had the perfect poker face, and it was hard to know what she was feeling inside.
"Yes, I am sorry. I just can't take this summer weather, you know. But anyway, I am so happy! Now you have to start making plans for the wedding and the moving. Did you tell your parents already?" asked Adriana, managing her inside feelings and faking a smile.
"No, but I will tell them tonight through Skype. You are the first one to know!" said Lindsay taking a sip from her ice tea. "I don't want to make this into a conversation about me, we will organize a dinner with James, where all our friends will come to celebrate the news, but now tell me what's going on with the new guy?"
"The new guy, I don't know. I like him, but we haven't met yet. I am probably going to ask him out, as I always do with guys. It just seems that it's not the same. Now, girls have to make the first step. If I didn't add him on Facebook, if I don't invite him out, it's always me that takes initiative and I am kind of depressed and tired of these games." Adriana said, looking at her French toast with no appetite at all.
"Don't be so harsh, give him time. He is probably busy with work. What is he working anyway?" she told Adriana, reaching to hold her hand for support and looking at her perfect ring and perfect life.
"He is a graphic designer. Yes you are right, I will wait and see what happens. Maybe it is not meant to be, or whatever." Adriana said, glancing at Lindsay's ring again.
