Zoey carefully pulled herself up from the ground. Her legs were wobbling, and she found it hard to stand. Zoey placed her hand over her neck. It wasn't bleeding anymore, which she felt was due to him licking it clean.
Zoey tried to wrap her brain around what had just happened, but her brain felt foggy. She kept her hand on her neck as it was throbbing. Zoey found her phone on the ground and lifted it up to see her flashlight was still on. She shined it on the path so she could find her way back.
The memories of what happened before the Beast got there came to her, and she started looking around for Zac.
What he did was wrong, but she wouldn't leave him out here. Zoey finally spotted him passed out on the ground. She walked to him and kicked him in the side to get him to wake up. Zac stirred and opened his eyes. He hissed as she shined the flashlight into his eyes.
He leaned up from the ground and looked around, disoriented. "What happened?"
"You don't remember?" She hoped that he wouldn't remember because it would be hard to explain how he got chucked into the air.
"I remember splitting from the group, but it's just hazy after that," he stammered while looking around. "Did I fall or something?"
"Y-yes, you tripped and hit your head on a rock." she lied as he touched the cut on his forehead, which he must've gotten when he landed.
"Let's go find everyone else."
Zoey led the way staying as far as she could from him. Eventually, they made it back to the trail, and she decided to head to her house since she didn't live far. Zoey's entire body was aching, and pain would spread from her neck every time she breathed.
Zoey left Zac behind since he would be able to get back now, but she suddenly heard laughter coming from behind her.
"Zoey! Wait up!" Amber called, chasing her. Zoey pulled the dress and cape over her neck the best she could, ignoring the sting. She didn't know what it looked like, but it couldn't have looked good.
"Did you have fun with Zac?" Amber asked while dragging out the A sound. Zoey rolled her eyes while Amber flashed her light on her body.
"Wow, you guys really got into it, huh?" Zoey realized what Amber meant when she looked at all the dirt covering her legs and dress. She noticed a bit of blood had traveled down her neck, staining the clothing. Zoey scoffed and began to walk again.
"I'm going home."
"What? No, you can't! We're going dancing. You can't back out again."
The feeling of how she betrayed her crept back up inside Zoey. She couldn't understand why Amber had set her up like that. Why did she tell Zac to do those things to me?
Zoey glared at her, but her gaze softened. I... I guess it was my fault that Amber felt that way. She was usually the responsible one so she rarely had much fun.
"Okay, I'll go," she gave in. Amber had been her friend for years, her best friend. Even though she hurt her, Zoey didn't want to lose Amber.
Amber squealed in delight and pulled Zoey in for a hug which caused the cape to move away from her neck.
"Did Zac do this to you?"
Amber asked while pointing her finger at Zoey's neck, which was probably red and swollen from how awful it hurt. She kept her mouth shut as it was perhaps better for Amber to think it was Zac rather than the Beast.
"I can't believe he would bite you with his fake wolf teeth," Amber laughed while looking back at the group.
The group started to walk back to the car. They were bummed they never found the Beast.
Zoey thought back to his command of staying home tonight, and she knew she was breaking it, but he couldn't control her. Zoey wasn't going to take orders from someone that bites people.
They made it back to the car and headed to the Night lights club. Zoey tried to brush off as much dirt as possible, but she couldn't get it out of the dress. She apologized to Jen, saying she could pay for it, but Jen said not to worry as she knew some tricks to get dirt and blood out of clothes.
Zoey leaned her head against the cold window hoping it would cool her down. Once she sat in the car, her skin started to burn, and she deeply regretted agreeing to go to the club. Zoey's neck was throbbing, and she ran a hand over it, feeling how hot and swollen it was. It made her worry that it was infected.
The club was about forty minutes away, and as they drove, the pain kept getting worse and worse.
Soon the car came to a stop, and they all hollered while getting out of the vehicle. Zoey groaned while pulling her head away from the window. Amber linked arms with her as Zoey got out of the car, making sure she wouldn't bolt. Amber took off her fangs and took the cape from Zoey, saying they shouldn't look like they just came from a Halloween party.
They went inside, and Zoey was met with flashing lights and loud music. Her head instantly started pounding as she looked at all the dancing bodies. Amber pulled her over to the bar, where Zoey sat down as Amber ordered drinks. Zoey stopped her when she ordered one for her and asked for water.
Once Amber got her drinks, she quickly shot them back and pulled Zoey to the dance floor before she got her water.
Zoey felt dizzy, and her brain felt fuzzier and fuzzier to the point where she wasn't even sure where she was. She suddenly felt someone press their body against hers, grinding into her. She shoved the person off and left for the bathroom. Zoey wiped the sweat off her brow and looked into the mirror.
Her face was flushed, and she had sweat dripping from her hairline. Her entire body was slightly pink. She pulled away from the dress from her skin, wincing as it started to stick. The wound was coved in dry blood. She tried to clean it the best she could with paper towels and water.
Zoey looked over her neck at the other marks littering her neck. Tears came to her eyes, and she stared at someone unrecognizable in the mirror.
Zoey swiped the paper towel over the wound, which sent a sharp pain down her arm. She cried out from the pain and instantly saw stars. Zoey leaned against the sink to prevent her from falling or fainting.
She heard the door to the bathroom open, but by now, her vision was completely blurry. She felt her knees buckle from under her, and she fell towards the ground, but she never hit it. Someone grabbed ahold of her waist, stopping her from hitting the ground.
Zoey couldn't see who had caught her, but she hoped it had been a friend instead of some creep.
"Zoey, I told you to go home."
She gasped and looked up at him, cursing that she couldn't see anything. His smooth deep voice caused chills down her spine and lifted the heat from her body for a moment.
"Y-you bit me," Zoey whispered, finding she had to use all her strength to talk. He chuckled, but it sounded far away, and before she knew it, she had drifted off.
