My mood turned into extreme happiness once we headed to Ava's cafe. Ava's cafe was a small two story building covered in vintage white bricks. The top floor was a simple apartment while the bottom catered to the cafe she owned. The storefront was a subtle teal color with a white pergola standing over the front porch. The pergola was decorated with the most beautiful vines and flowers. They brought splashes of color to the plain colored outdoor decoration.
Underneath all the colorful flowers were six circle marble tables, with two wooden chairs seated at each. A small stone path led to the teal colored elegant glass door. There were large windows on each side of the door that let customers see the delicious treats inside.
Her store was located just outside of downtown, on a small side street. It sat next to an old red apartment complex, the dusty museum and finally across from a small park. It was a beautiful street and every year the city decorated the streets with dazzling flowers.
Most of the time caregivers would come with their little boys and girls to get small treats for them. Plus most of the time I got to be little, mostly doing small stuff like cleaning tables and sweeping. But when I was big I got to work the cash register and help Ava in the kitchen making goodies! We made pastries, doughnuts, cupcakes, cakes and all sorts of other things.
I bounced in my seat when Kayla turned onto the Main Street of where the cafe was located. I giggled happily when I saw the flowered covered building. "Auntie! I see it I see it!"
"I know, I know baby calm down. You need to stay calm or else we can't go in." Kayla said to try and get me to calm down as she pulled into the side parking lot. I instantly went still but not a second later my leg started to bounce up and down.
The second that she put the car in park I barreled out of it and to the front of the shop. I zoomed my way through the open glass door into the open air shop.
The inside was bursting with light from the large windows. In the back left corner was a white counter and two glass display cases next to each other. The displays were filled with all types of baked goods cooked the morning of and the countertops also had a display cake. Used for showing off Ava's pastry skills and all of her talent. We had espresso machines, a pastry warmer, a mini fridge and most more behind our small counter. I smiled happily when I glanced up at the beautiful globe shaped lights that Ava just installed. We had fake vines and flowers running the tops of the rafters to give it more meaning. Small paintings that Sophie made decorated the brick walls almost side the chalkboard menu. Cool grey tables were placed around the room with comfortable wooden chairs around them. On the wall opposite of the counter was a long blush colored booth, with small tables placed all the way down.
The cafe wasn't quite bustling with business but there were a few people outside and a few lingering people at the tables. I instantly found Ava being the counter at the register, she was helping a lady. I sprinted to her passing through the small door to the back of the counter. "Ava!!" I hugged her hip tightly making her stumble in her spot.
She looked down at me and ruffled my hair, "Lucas honey please wait until I'm done..." She turned back to the lady, "I'm very sorry, Here is your change. Please let me know if you need anything else, don't be afraid to call for me. My name is Ava if you didn't already know."
"Thank you." The lady picked up her plate and cup and walked away to the other side of the cafe.
"Ava!" I said again.
"Hey little muffin... You need to make sure next time I'm not with someone when you run up to me." I nodded and put up my arms to signal I wanted to be picked up. She took the hint and instantly put me on her hip. "Where is Auntie Kayla? I didn't see you come in with her. You didn't walk here did you?" I shook my head. "I would hope not."
"Lucas!" Kayle bursted into the cafe, she was panting and carrying all the bags in her arms. "At least let me stop the car before you run off in the parking lot. You could have been hit by a car! You need to hold my hand so I know you don't get hurt." I whimpered, burying my head into Ava's neck. I didn't mean too, I was just so excited to see Ava and Max...
"Is all this true? Did you run out on Auntie?" I slowly nodded trying to hide my face even more. "Now you should know that little boys like you are too small to walk by yourself."
"But wan see Maxie and Ava..." I mumbled to her.
"Now that's okay, but little boys are too small to run around. Now I think sitting in my office for five minute will be a good punishment for you. You can't be wondering off like this again. It's dangerous. Okay?"
"Otay.. Can Auntie Kayla bring I?"
"Yes Baby I can.." She walked to us and dropped the bag on the outside of the counter. Then proceeded to pick me up and carry me down the short hallway, this led to the bathroom, the stairs to Ava's apartment and the employee back room. She walked to the last door, the employee one, and took a right as soon as she stepped through the doorway. As soon as we were in Ava's office, I was placed on Ava's chair. Kayla pushed in back against the wall so I wasn't so close to the desk.
"Now sit on Ava's nice chair here and don't touch anything. I will come back for you in five minutes, and you better not have moved or I'm going to add more time."
"Yes Auntie..."
"Good boy." I watched as she retreated out of the office and closed the door. I bowed my head and twiddled my thumbs sadly. I didn't wanna be here, I wanted to be with Sophie and Max. I didn't mean to run away from Kayla... I felt cold tears run down my warm cheeks and hit my hands. Choking out a loud sob I angrily wiped them away. I was so dumb.. I shouldn't have run away from auntie.. She was probably so worried about me. Should have just waited to see Maxie and everyone til she said it's ok. Then I could have helped her carry all the heavy bags into the cafe.
I let out another loud sob... "I sowwie I so sowwie auntie..." Tears flooded from my eyes as the damn finally broke and the falls came. My body shook lightly as I curled up on the chair. I want auntie so bad...
"Oh baby..." I lifted my head up and through teary eyes I saw Kayla with a frown on her lips. She quickly came over to me and scooped me up in her arms, holding me close to her chest. I snuggled into her quickly, which caused me to sob even harder this time.
"I so sowwie Auntie Kayla.." I shuddered out. "No mean worry chu. I so sowwie.." Kayla shifted me so she could see my face. She quickly wiped away my falling tears and smiled at me.
"Calm down baby.. Deep breaths now." I took a shaky breath, "Good boy... You're doing a great job. Keep going," Kayla gently patted my back to help me calm down further. After talking a few more deep breaths, and calming down to a few small whimpers, Kayla smiled at me again. "Now explain to Auntie why you are crying so hard? You usually don't break down this bad during a punishment baby." She was right, usually I would throw a fit when I got a punishment, not break down crying.
"Cause Lucas in time-outs for scarin Aunite. And I just wan see Ava... And Maxie... And best friend Sophie. I sowwie, didn't help with bags either."
Kayla gave a small chuckle at my response. "Yes I was very worried about you, because you didn't even wait for me to unbuckle you or anything. You just jumped out of the car without telling me. Now when I can't see you it scares me, what if you would have fallen. Or if someone took you away from me?" I gasped. "Yes see. You don't wanna be taken away from me do you?" I shook my head quickly. " So next time let's wait until I say you can run to Ava okay? I'm not mad at you my bunny... I was just worried something happened to you."
I giggled, "Bunny?"
"Yep you are my little, with your little twitching nose." I giggled again as she tapped it gentle. "Now are we ready to go out to Ava. Then we can say sorry to you and maybe even get a cup of cocoa?"
"Yes! Cocoa! I want somes! Wif marshmolows!" Kayla chuckled at me and despite me not wanting to, she set me on the ground and we walked to the front. Ava was behind the counter again, this time making drinks. I looked around the bright store front and saw some people watching me with small smiles. My cheeks flushed a rosy pink as I tried to hide behind Kayla.
"Oh Mrs. Ava... Someone has something to say to you." Kayla opened the half door so I could go behind the counter to Ava.
She turned around quickly and saw me. She put down the cup she had and crouched down. "Yes my blueberry muffin."
"Ums.. I sowwie Ava. For intwubting you..."
Ava threw her arms around me and picked me up as I laughed. She swung me on her hip and kiss the top of my head. "Hey it's alright little muffin. I know you didn't do it on purpose, you just get excited to see your favorite Ava!"
"Chu the only Ava silly!" I laughed loudly as she gave me a shocked face.
"Well that makes me the best now doesn't!"
"Yes!" I shouted.
After my apology to Ava I got handed a small cup of hot cocoa. We all sat down at one of the tables at the large glass windows, which was also placed in front of the counter. I happily sipped on my hot cocoa with five marshmallows! I mean like this is everyone's dreams! A whole five marshmallows in a cup of cocoa, It's amazing. Kayla and Ava started talked about stuff that I couldn't care less about, grown up talk is so boring.
"Where's Sophie?" I asked out of the blue. She must have not been in the cafe or else she would have come out and said hi to me. Maybe she was in the apartment upstairs?
"Sophie started her grown up job today?"
"Oo that must be exciting for her. What kind of job does she have?" Kayla asked.
"She was super excited to start working, not that excited to wake up so early again." She laughed. " Sophie got a job as a help in a kindergarten class. She loves to work with kids so I told her it would be a great idea to try something like that." Kayla nodded in agreement. Both went back to chatting as I finished my hot cocoa. I got off my chair and slowly walked to the pink trash can to throw it away. I was happy to work for Ava, knowing that she was a great caregiver helped too. Plus anytime I wanted to I could come over, Kayla usually came with too. Kayla didn't have to work at all because her parents were pretty comfortable but she liked to work every once in a while. She enjoyed seeing all the different types of couples coming in too, even if she wasn't in the age regression community.
"Hey pancake.." I turned around from the trash can and looked at Ava.
"Huh?"
"You spaced out there baby. Come over here so you aren't in front of the door." I skipped over to her quickly. "I asked you if you were gonna stay a little all shift? Just so I know where I can put you.." I thought about it for a second, I really wanted to decorate today. I couldn't really do that as a little, only if there was enough people working. There wasn't. I shook my head. "No? Okay, then you can be back in the bakery tonight. I have fresh cupcakes and cookies that I made today. The cookies have to be bagged and the cupcakes need to be frosted and put in the case." She pointed to the glass case with two empty spots. "Then they get put in those spots okay?" I nodded again.
"Smart boy, Now why don't you go get ready for work." Kayla said to me.
"Otay! 'I'll get my shirt and hat on!" I turned quickly and almost took off when Ava stopped me.
"Hey, make sure you change your shoes too. We don't want you to slip like you did last week. They are in your locker, and I washed your jacket and apron." I nodded again and ran to the employee room. I went straight to the back wall to the lockers and found the one with my name on it. I opened it and found everything in there just like Ava said. I smiled and put on my black chef jacket, I loved wearing them. Then I never had to worry about my actual clothes getting dirty. I buttoned it to the top and slipped off my white shoes. I took out my non-slip shoes and put those on instead, putting the white ones in the locker. I then removed my flower crown and put on my baseball cap instead. Once I was finished I blew a kiss to myself in the mirror and closed my locker.
As I headed back to Kayla and Ava I heard them talking to someone else. I glanced around the wall and saw Sophie! "Sophie!" I yelled as I sprinted to her. She turned quickly and squealed. She was wearing a pretty yellow dress and had her white hair braided into two french braids going down to her shoulders. She had black flats on and had a small black bag on her back. Everything made her look gorgeous, and she truly was.
