She felt anxious, anger and sadness altogether at once as though she was entrapped in a huge bubble in dark abyss, where no one who can hear or see her or as though she is left alone in a school closet, crying.
She couldn't blame her mom, no she couldn't. It would only bring more tears to her empty nights. Lavender stared blankly outside through the car windows. The chilly winds on her burning skin felt like pricking her fingers against the thorns of a rose.
She remained quite during the entire journey. Lavender had nothing to say, or at least nothing she could say without being judged by her mother. She only opened her lips when her mom told her that they had reached the private institution. She only hummed as a response. Her voice was filled with bittersweet sadness.
She looked around the place they had reached.
It is beautiful.
Trees surrounded them from every corner, the snow on the lower branches of the trees slowly melting away while the snow at the apex was still in it's full glory. The weather was pleasant when at stillness.
She closed the car door shut with more force than she intended to.
" Lavender, We can't do anything about it now. Don't be still mad, look around. It is a wonderful place.", her mom said coming around to the back to take the luggage.
"yes..", she responded in a low quivering voice. She dare argue with her mom. She didn't have a choice in this anyway, she didn't have any other choice than to let this happen.
Maybe it will be good, Maybe the institution wouldn't be too bad. I might find friends. I might enjoy life here rather at home and perhaps this is my new home.
"Come on, tut -tut, hurry up", her mom ordered.
They took off the luggage from the car and proceeded to walk with the trolley trailing patterns in the soft snow. The rumbling sounds of the trolley bags made her feel as though she was on a vacation. She wasn't. It is going to be hell for her.
NO, stop, positive thoughts, think about positive things. She tells herself.
It was a long walk, a long, awaiting, dreadful walk in the sharp cold winter air, in the month of January. She kept her eyes lowered most of the time, looking at the ground. Her mom's footsteps suddenly came to a stop, and she looked ahead of her, confused. Her eyes opened wide with surprise. She felt like she was magically teleported to a fairy land.
"Lavie, come on.." her mom said , smiling at her, a smile she had never seen before, and with a tone her ears had never been blessed with before.
Lavender didn't hold back her bewilderment anymore, she just couldn't. She let the feeling show on her feminine countenance.
"aw, now, it is no Hogwarts, but I hope you will enjoy being here"
why is she being nice?
Yes, her mom would be sad too. She is her mom after all, she thinks to herself. yes, she would be happy to bring her to the place where her mom had studied, the renowned institution, but would her mom be sad of letting her daughter go?
The institution looked more like a castle as she stepped more closer to the stairway leading to the enormous front doors. She lifted the trolley up in her hands, and started ascending the stairs. Her breath coming out more fragmented than before and forming a misty cloud which slowly dispersed out in the dense air.
The two guards who stood at the front door, looked at them with a direct stern glance when they reached the top and were panting for their breaths. One of the guard came ahead to stop them from entering. Her mom stepped ahead of her and shared a quick understanding glance with the guard. He stepped back quickly with regret lingering in his eyes. The expression on his deep honey colored face was so profound that Lavender couldn't stop thinking about exactly how much famous and rich was her family? A family she was ashamed to be a part of. The guard looked scared almost as though her mom was about to pounce at him at the deadly hour of noon while hiding in the bushes, and the poor deer notices the lion.
Her mom says nothing else. The guards opened the door for them slowly with their heads bowed.
Woah.
