rachel's car

i swore to myself when i was younger that as soon as i was a teenager i would start to actually live my life and do something with myself. so far i've let her down. it's not entirely my fault to be fair. my parents where over protective until my dad died and my mom lost control of herself, so i was left looking after my little sister. moms getting better though, so now is my time to fulfill my promise to myself.

" ENOA GIRL COME ONE GET HYPED" rachel yelled in my ear and i cringed at the loudness of it. even after 9 years as best friends i'd still never gotten used to how loud she was.

"OKAY OKAY FINE" i shouted back, turning the volume knob on the dashboard all the way up. "WOOOOOO" the car swerved as rachel bounced up and down from excitement. she never was the best driver.

we pulled onto the highway, and the car gave a soft groan as rachel punch the gas. one of the benefits of living in a semi small town is that there's hardly anyone else out at this time. midnight drives had become a regular event for rachel and i and our small group of friends.

geronimo by sheppard was playing at full blast as we flew down the barren road, wind whipping up our hair through the open windows. rachel and i sang every word as we pulled off the highway.

we pulled into the deserted neighborhood and immediately entered the familiar routine we liked to call incognito mode. i turned the volume all the way down as rachel rolled the windows up, then we both ducked low as she inches the car slowly forward, coming to a stop infront of the familiar white house.

we waited in silence for a few minutes, the air thick with anticipation and impatience on rachel's part. eventually the back door clicked open and a dark figure crawled in.

"hey guys" trevor whispered, closing the door silently as rachel began to inch the car back into motion.

"hey trev" my lips parted in a soft smile, reaching my hand into the backseat to do our secret handshake. fist bump slide snap high-five bump both sides bird shadow puppet.

"let's get the party started" rachel's voice was louder and she began picking up the speed now that we where away from trevors house. his dad was the chief of police and had very strict rules about curfew and friends but luckily the three of us had devised a way to sneak him out through his window and down the lawn when we where five so we could go find frogs and it's always stuck.
