according to legend, nure onna was the first woman to ever settle ryomen sukuna down. sukuna's first and last. his great love. during the prime era of sorcery 1000 years ago, both nure and sukuna were demons, though in truth were human sorcerers. the pair were hunted by many sorcerers because of their uncanny abilities. nure was the one and only woman to ever give her life away in order to protect her love. she was captured and tortured in exchange for sukuna's whereabouts. after the death of nure, sukuna had gone full blown demon and was careless about his body that sorcerers were able to defeat him. he died with the pain that the woman he loved died because of him.
1000 years later, the king of curses was incarnated inside Yuji Itadori's body. this happened after the boy had eaten one of his cursed fingers, which contain fragments of sukuna's powesr. sukuna later learned that the love of his life was trapped inside a body of a weak girl. unlike sukuna, nure isn't able to control the girl because her curse energy was greatly depleted from many years ago. nure will only be summoned whenever she is needed.
sakura mayaki, nure onna's vessel was a very different vessel than yuji itadori. her body wasn't just the type to be able to hold a vessel naturally. she didn't just eat a cursed objects and have it stay inside her unharmed. while yuji itadori was able to do that, the girl had to go through great lengths to keep nure in check. her family, the mayaki clan, are a family of sorcerers that are known to hold dangerous cursed spirits in a form of human vessels. for generations, every children that reaches the age of 10 will have to undergo horrible training to be experimented on. whoever passes the experimentation will be the vessel for a special grade cursed spirit. she was the only children to have survived this process. although, sakura never sees this as an honorary token but, more as a form of torture.
not only was she one of, if not, the only sane one's from her clan, but her life is literally decreasing over time. every time she uses her curse energy for battle, her life will be shortened significantly because her body cannot handle it. that is why, she doesn't go into fights but rather spends her time studying under shoko ieri, jujutsu tech's doctor. she stays behind battles and only ever uses her curse energy to heal students and teachers who need it.

i was rewatching jjk and the episode where itadori was beating mahito's ass made me think of this story i dont know why .
