Ivor's Past Part 1

Ivor sat on a chair next to the young sleeping girl. His eyes wide open as he kept his eyes on the bedroom door. He listened as a glass bottle hit the floor and started to hear foot steps. They where slow and it sounded like the person was stumbling bumping into walls and other pieces of furniture. Ivor quickly stood and shook his sisters shoulder. 

The young girls bright blue eyes opening and blinking a few times. "Ivor?" The young girl asked looking at him while wiping her eyes tiredly. 

Ivor gave the young girl a small smile before picking her up from the bed and holding her close. "Hey Evelyn." Ivor said as he tried to sound as calm as possible. 

The girl held onto Ivor and looked to the door where she could now her the shuffling of furniture. "Is mommy sleepy?" She asked as she took Ivor's braided hair into her hands and played with the ends.

Ivor paused for a moment before he answered. "Yeah, mom is just tired."

Evelyn nodded before letting go of her older brother's hair. "...." She was quiet for a moment before getting to what she really wanted to ask. "Is Daddy coming home soon?" 

Ivor closed his eyes. " A week."

Evelyn tilted her head in confusion for a moment. "How long is a week again?"    

Ivor couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. "Seven days, and each day is twenty four hours."

Evelyn nodded and berried her head into Ivor's shoulder. " Yay, I can't wait to tell him about how I learned all my ABC's."

Ivor nodded. "I'm sure he'll love to hear all about it."

He could have let Evelyn sleep through it but just in case their mother came storming in a drunken state and he had to get her in a hiding place and get her a invisibility potion.   

Ivor bit the inside of his lip as he looked at the door. " Hey Evelyn, do you want to read a book while we wait for Mom to go to bed?"
