A lost soul (Asriel Dreemurr x Rwby)

Chapter 23: What happened?

Asriel wakes up as he is being carried and suddenly he is dropped, he looks up to see Nora.

Nora: Finally you were getting heavy, now come on

Nora lends out a hand to help Asriel up.

Asriel: Ugh my neck hurts, what happened?

Nora: Ah ha... ha... it was nothing!

Ren: Nora hit you with a pan.

Nora: I was getting to that!

Asriel: What else did I miss?

Jaune: Well same as usual, but we need to find help for Qrow.

Ruby: Hey wait that's right! Asriel you got stung too! Are you feeling ok?

Asriel looks down at his mark and he touches it. It stings, but he doesn't feel any venom.

Asriel: It still hurts, but I don't feel anything else.

Ren: That's strange. Either way we need to help Qrow.

Asriel: Right!

As the group continue they eventually split up Ren and Nora head to the mountains, and Ruby, Jaune, and Asriel walk through the road. The three soon find another abandoned village and stop to explore the ruins to find anyone or anything.

As they head back to Qrow a creature makes a loud noise from off in the distance, causing both Ruby, Jaune, and Asriel to turn. Jaune's hand immediately goes to his sword and looks around for the source of the noise.

Ruby: It's far off.

Jaune: I know, but Ren and Nora are still out there.

Ruby: I'm sorry.

Jaune: Huh?

Asriel: What?

Ruby: This is all my fault. I should have never dragged you guys into this.

Jaune: You didn't drag us in. We wanted to come.

Ruby: But you didn't know about Tyrian, about—

Jaune: Ruby. We lost... We lost Penny, and your team, and in a way... your sister. But you're still here, despite everything you've lost, everything you could still lose, you chose to come out here.

Asriel: That's right, we all want to help and make things better

Jaune: Because you felt like you could make a difference.

She lifts her head and looks at them.

Jaune: You didn't drag us along. You gave us the courage to follow you.

He puts his hand on her shoulder. She smiles at him, grateful, and he smiles back. Suddenly Ren and Nora run toward the three in a panic.

Ruby: What are you guys doing here?

Jaune: Did you hear that noise? What was that?!

Ren: No...

Ruby: Ren! What is it?!

Asriel: What's wrong!?

The sound of plodding footsteps can be heard coming closer.

Jaune: Wait, you guys hear that?

Ren: No...

Nora: Ren?

The footsteps come to a stop. A bone horse head breathes loudly, exhaling black smoke. Within the bones are glowing red lights and around it is the black flesh of a Grimm.

Ren lifts his head.

Weapons can be seen, stuck into an offscreen body that has bones sticking out perpendicular to its spine. Slowly, a torso raises, revealing a horned, humanoid Grimm. The horns and front part of the face are bone while the mouth is merely thin strips of Grimm flesh stretching across an opening. The mouth, the bones, and the eyes all glow red. The Nuckelavee twitches its head and roars.
