The low hum of nature filled up her ears as she stepped around the roots of the trees. "I shouldn't be here," she thought. "Mother always warned me about this place." She could almost hear her mother's voice scolding her- but she couldn't help it. Something about the fog that constantly surrounds the house drew her in. The smell of the rain lingered in the air. The fresh flowers just starting to bloom almost swallow up what you could see of the ground. Vines trailed up the side of the cabin. Making her way to the other side of the cabin, she stumbled upon a pitch black lake. Slowly, she made her way down the rickety old dock- that frankly could break at any second- but she paid no attention to that. Her only focus was making it to the end. It's as if the lake put her in a trance-like state. Crazy, right? "I must be going insane," she muttered. But she couldn't ignore the fact that she could just hear it calling to her.

Please...

Help me.

I'm scared

Help me!!!

It whispers. She slowly crouched down and leaned towards the water, her dull eyes stared back at her. She cocked her head to the side and scoffed. "What am I thinking? It's just a normal lake."

Or so she thought. Just as she was about to walk away... a hand shot out and grabbed her wrist. It was pale. Black veins ran up the arm, only to lead to razor sharp black nails. Screaming, she tried to pull away from the water but the hand didn't budge, holding her in place.

The creature emerged out of the water and lunged at her. Its black hair plastered to its face and its sickly pale skin stood out against its maroon dress.

"Help me!" It screeched.

"What do you want from me?!" She cried. "Please, just let me go!" She thrashed around, desperately trying to get loose, but it didn't work. The creature crept its hand up to her face and lightly brushed her hair away from her face and placed a hand on her cheek. She tried to pull away but it didn't budge. It looks at her with... dare she say... a hopeful look.

"Help me," it whispered, once again before turning back around and sinking back into the lake.

Hey y'all! If you made it this far, thanks for reading. Sorry the chapter was kind of short, but I'm proud of it. This is the first time that I've tried to write a thriller/horror/mystery/whatever story, so if you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to send them in! Also, if you notice any errors in grammar/spelling, don't be afraid to point them out.

Until next time,
