Chapter 25
"Naruto," she turns to him, her attitude and posture that of a ninja ready for war, "You make sure the barrier is reinforced and kill anyone who tries to pass you."
She looks up at Sasuke, "You have to do the jutsu that puts Nian into me. Under no circumstances should you abandon that task until it is completed."
Sasuke didn't like the uncertainty in her eyes when she spoke her last sentence. Her voice might have been a tone of steel, surety, and no room for argument but he, Naruto, and Sakura knew her all too well to not know that she was worried that something might go wrong.
Her giving that order meant that she was sacrificing even Dean to get hurt or even killed because the mission came first; Nian came first. There was no way they can allow Nian to get into the hands of the enemy.
Although the ninja side of Sasuke would obey with no hesitancy; he knew that he would go against her command if he needed to. And she wouldn't blame him for it because she would do the same. Not only was she saying this for the mission but because she was trying to make herself feel better that everything will go according to plan.
"Sakura," she turns to Sakura who was still working on the boy, "I know you're tired and exhausted but we have no other choice seeing as we didn't factor in them having such a powerful barrier around the boy nor did we expect him to have unlocked his kekkei genkai. And... we didn't expect me using a spell that might knock me out again." Her eyes harden as the thought of what is about to happen plays in the back of her mind. "When I am done with the Dariliayam boy, you will take him and Dean to a safe place and protect them."
"What spell are you going to do, Athena-chan?" Naruto asks worriedly.
Athena's hard brown eyes pierces the boy's closed-lidded ones, "A life force binding spell."
Naruto lets out a relieved sigh, "That's good isn't it, dattebyo?!"
"No, Naruto, it's not," Sasuke's eyes cloud with understanding and remembrance. She had used the spell before many times and even when they had gone to war but the difference was that she had Nian then and she didn't have her now. Her massive amount of energy then had sustained her long enough to always fight with them but if she does this now, none of them knows the outcome. She might even be out for another day -if what they learned about the Dariliayam clan was true then the team would need her- and there was one last, very worrisome, aspect left to consider...
"You will only be giving him your life energy which means that he will stay human and still live." Naruto says enthusiastically.
Sasuke shakes his head as he notice Athena's hands clench into fists.
"Naruto, she might be so weak from the spell that she won't be able to control Nian from taking over her body."
Naruto's sky-blue eyes widen at the issue as he thought about how rampant Nian had gone when they had tried to talk to her and she attacked them. It was as if she had no memory of them and she was nothing but a wild-animal taking her anger out on them; just like Athena told them the other night of what her future self told her about Nian -she was right. In the state Nian was in, she might definitely try to overpower Athena and succeed.
"I'll lend you my energy, Athena nee-chan."
Athena opened her eyes after she ran the plan through her mind, "We will figure it out depending on the effects of the spell. For now, move!"
She didn't want to tell Naruto that she doubted that he would have enough chakra for both of them if she can't control Nian and for when they fight this psychotic clan.
