Tom left the trailer and I sat down on the couch and just thought

Suddenly my phone began ringing

It was my social worker

Shit

I hadn't exactly told her where i was going and well, I was supposed to

Claire- Hey doll how are you?

Allie - Im good im good

Claire - Now before you ask, I know exactly where you are

Allie - That's good I was getting nervous

I need to describe Claire. She had been my social worker my whole lief and always cared for me, she had tried to get me adopted many times but nothing ever seemed to work and well, I was fine on my own

Claire - But listen I have the most amazing news!

Allie - What is it?!

Claire - There's a family that's interested in you!

Allie - I- What?

Lemme explain this as well. I had just turned 14 and it's a common phrase amongst foster kids that nobody wants a teenager, so this was really weird

Claire - Ye ye I know! Listen I dont know a lot but they have invited you over for dinner tomorrow night to get to know them and see if they would be a good fit!

Allie - That's amazing!

I was so happy, this could finally be my chance. I mean I liked being on my own but I longed for a mum and dad. A real family.

Claire - Alright I'll come pick you up at the hotel at 4 tomorrow?

Allie - I- Ye sure!

She hung up the phone and I spun around in the trailer. I finally have a shot!   But I can't get too excited, this has happened before and the people have turned out to be crazy or  have 23 cats so I can't get my hopes up.

I decided not to tell anyone about the whole adoption thing because well I didn't want anyone to get their hopes up.

I decided to go to Helena's trailer as i knew she had a pretty free day today.

*Time Jump - 1 hour later*

I sat on my phone with the foils on my head waiting for the time to pass so I could wash this itchy stuff off my head. Let me catch you up Helena somehow convinces me to dye my hair pink because I told her I was going on a date with Tom tonight. I have to admit I have always wanted bright coloured hair, and it didn't seem like I was going back to real school anytime soon. Helena sat in the corner, just like I saw her for the first time, reading a huge book.

Rose - Whatchya reading?

Helena - The periodic table of feminism my Marisa Tate

Rose - Wow sounds complicated

Helena - It just takes you through all the important women of history to do with feminism

Rima wandered into the trailer

Rima - Alright I think we're ready

She span my chair around so the back of the head could face the sink. it was like a professional hair salon, just in a caravan. The lukewarm water hit my head as Rima rubbed my scalp.

Rima - You really are very pretty you know?

Allie - I- Thank you

She continued washing out the dye and smiling on me. Like how a mother would smile at her daughter, I hope my new mum is like Rima I thought.

Rima flicked the tap off and spun me around, she had a hairdryer plugged in.

I looked at my reflection and, my hair really was pink. It was beautiful, I loved it

Allie - Rima I- I- I love it

Rima - Now important question, straight or curled?

She smiled at me. I could see the laugh lines on her face, her smile looked like she had had a life of happiness and warmth.

Allie - Definitely curled

She began blow drying my hair. I began reading a book I found on the counter  'The secret history of feminism by Donna Tart' the front splayed in cursive. Classic Helena

Rima finished blow drying my hair and began curling it. I marvelled as she moved my hair so the curls came out all even and perfect. I looked stunning. Helena looked up from her book, her jaw dropped open.

Helena - Allie, you look- gorgeous

Rima finished with my hair. Helena clapped her hands together

Helena - Now time for a dress!

Allie - Dress?

I need to explain I'm not much of dress person. Like at all. I was definitely more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. Helena pointed my attention to a rack of gowns, I bit my lip nervously.
