Jisung POV
We were in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Minho had to be brought in on a stretcher because he was too injured to walk on his own. I sat off to the side as a paramedic tended to the bloody rope burns on my wrist.
I stared at the floor of the ambulance, too scared to look up at Minho. He looked like he was in so much pain and it was all my fault. If I hadn't let him help me at the cafe maybe things would have turned out differently for him.
"He'll make it right?" I whispered to the paramedic beside me.
"I can't say for sure. I'm sorry," They replied with a sympathetic look on their face.
I nodded to show that I understood, covering my ears with my hands trying to block out the sirens blaring. All I could hope for was that this would all be over soon and that Minho would make it through.
~~~
A few hours had passed since Minho and I had been taken to the hospital. A few nurses shuffled in and out of my room, tending to the rope burns on my wrists, but they never stayed for long. I attempted to ask them how Minho was doing but all they would tell me was that he was in the emergency room. It drove me crazy that they refused to tell me his condition.
About half an hour had passed when a nurse walked into the room.
"Are you okay with visitors?" They asked. I nodded in response. They left the room and a few minutes later, the door practically burst open.
"Jisung, we were so worried!" Felix cried, rushing into the room.
"Never scare us like that again!" Jeongin scolded, following behind Felix. Seungmin walked in behind the two of them, a serious expression on his face.
"It's not his fault," Seungmin said sternly. "Let's all be glad that he's okay."
They took a seat by the bedside, Jeongin looking close to tears.
"I wasn't gone for that long, don't be so worried," I said gently rubbing Jeongin's arm.
"But you got hurt!" He cried, looking at my wrists.
"It's nothing major. Minho got hurt way worse than I did," I said, murmuring the last sentence.
"It could still scar if you didn't get proper treatment," Seungmin said.
"Right," I agreed absentmindedly. Felix laid his head on my thigh, fidgeting with the edge of the bedsheets.
The door to my room opened slowly and Hyunjin walked inside. He made his way over to me and sat in a chair on the opposite side of the bed.
"Hey, man. Are you feeling okay?" He asked me. His face was pale, most likely from worry or shock over what had happened to Minho.
"Do you know how Minho is doing? The lady at the front desk wouldn't tell me."
"He's getting emergency treatment right now," I explained, my voice getting softer with each word.
"I see," Hyunjin said quietly, twisting a ring on his finger. "Thank you for acting quickly. I'm sure Minho will be okay because of you."
"I'm the reason he got hurt though," I said, blinking back tears that stung at the backs of my eyes.
"Minho really cares about you so please don't beat yourself up over this. He made the decision to save you," Hyunjin said, his tone of voice turning serious.
"I'll thank him properly once all of this is over," I promised.
Just then, the door to my room opened again. This time, two people in police uniforms walked through. One was on the shorter side and had black hair and a pointy chin. The other was taller and had curly blond hair and a gentle expression on his face.
"Hello, we're from the Seoul police department. Is it okay if we ask you a few questions?" The blond-haired officer asked, showing his badge to us for confirmation. Hyunjin started looking around anxiously and Felix, Seungmin, and Jeongin looked at the officers apprehensively.
"Sure," I replied, sitting up straighter in my bed.
"The rest of you can stay if you have any answers to our questions," The black-haired officer said before taking out a small notepad. Felix glanced at the officers with narrowed eyes as if trying to remember something.
"Do you happen to know the person who kidnapped you?" The blond-haired officer asked.
"No. I do have her number though," I explained. "Would that help?"
"Any bit of information would be helpful," He replied. I reached for my phone which Seungmin had put on the table by my bed. I unlocked my phone and pulled up my message history with my kidnapper. The black-haired officer quickly jotted down the number.
"Thank you. Are any of you close with Minho?"
"I am," Hyunjin replied, hesitantly raising his hand.
"Did you notice any difference in his behavior this morning?" The blond-haired officer asked.
"Well... He was out of the house most of the day but early this morning he left our apartment in a hurry without telling me where he was going," Hyunjin explained. The black-haired officer finished jotting something down and gave the taller officer a nod.
"That will be all for today. If you think of any other information please let us know."
They were almost out of the room when Felix abruptly called after them.
"You never told us your names," He pointed out.
"Oh right! I'm so sorry. I'm Chan," The blond-haired officer said.
"I'm Changbin," The other said, giving a slight nod.
"I think I know the both of you from somewhere," Felix said, staring at the two officers as he tried to remember. "Oh. Didn't you both tutor me after school?"
"I remember that," Changbin said, his serious expression morphing into a smile. "I'm pretty sure it was more of us hanging out than actual tutoring though."
"How about we catch up tomorrow? We have a few things to do," Chan said apologetically as he handed me a business card. "Give me a call if you remember anything."
With that, they gave us slight nods before leaving the room, the door closing quietly behind them.
