George Pov
—————————
It was another uneventful day, another uneventful evening.George was sitting alone in his room, curled up in the always so cold window frame. That was the only place he actually enjoyed being. The majestic view of the castle grounds at night was calming, oddly comforting.
In the day, it was full of hard working and exhausted servants, animal keepers and gardeners. Always movement, always chaos. At night, the only living creatures the eye could detect were the guards and the ever so majestic night owls. Most of the time hidden amongst the trees, avoiding the outer world. But once in a while you could see them swoop by, searching for a new resting spot or a new prayer. George never really cared for them before, but in later days something about them got his attention. The way they always looked so free, so troubleless. Everything he wished he could feel.
By now, he even admired them- in fact, he envied them.
It was bad enough losing your brother, and having to take over as heir to the throne completely unprepared didn't exactly make it easier.
Well, not completely unprepared concidering the fact he was a part of the royal family and had been trained for an occasion like this one all his life. Although, since the thought of his brother being brutaly murdered never really crossed his mind he hadn't payed much attention. He had always been occupied in his own thoughts, not very aware of the world around him. It had worked perfectly fine, he was spoiled and hadn't had many responsibilities, but then of course is brother had to go die and leave him a bunch of crap he definitely was not mentally prepared for.
Not to sound insensitive though, he did love his brother. They had been relatively close and he would often watch as his brother learned things about being a king, admiring all his knowledge. He remembered what his brother often said, which used to be a joke but felt like a way for the gods to laugh at him now: "My dearest brother, you do know that all of this is gonna be in your hands if I leave this world?" He always said this whenever George would ask how his brother did all of it, rambling about how it seemed impossible. Ha. Ironic, isn't it?
He just wished women were allowed to take over the throne, he knew his sister would be much better suited for such a task. Whenever he needed advice of any kind, he would come to her. She always had the most logic mind and was defenitely capable of the whole queen thing. It seemed unfair, why did he have to be the only dumb one in the household?
If there was something he wished he could do in this world, it was to be like one of those owls. To run away from all of this, to just dissapear and never come back. Not having to deal with the preassure- the fear of being a dissapointment. He didn't wanna sound ungrateful, George truly appreciated everything he had been given, that he never had to worry about neither starving nor anything else normal village people had to everyday. Though if he was given the opportunity, he would gladly switch places with a volounteer. Being a prince had always been a privilige and he had always loved it. But now, all the new responsibilities had been suffocating him and all George wanted was to get away and not having to deal with it. Running away from his problems had always been an instinct and most of the time a good decision since it didn't usually turn out so good when he tried to fix them.
With a heavy sigh, he walked over to his bed and layed down under the covers. The window was getting way too cold and his back was aching from the hard stone wall.
Falling asleep was always difficult for someone with so many thoughts swirling around in their head, but this night it was perticulary hard.
The last thought that left George's mind before he slowly drifted off to sleep, was the endearing thought of being just like those owls.
