Clay Pov
—————————
A soft breeze brushed gently against Clay's soft skin. The leaves rustled quietly in the distance, and the sound of a cricket could be heard if you listened closely. The night was calm, silent. Clay's fingertips brushed against the ancient wood of the majestic oak tree that had been there for centuries.
If there was any place, any time of the day where Clay could feel at peace, it was here. Where the branches grew long and wide like a comforting blanket around the otherwise so open and unsettling castle grounds. Embracing him the way a mother embraces her newborn, or the way a house shields a family from the outer world. It was comforting, safe.
Clay had gotten used to the idea of being a king a very long time ago, as he was the firstborn and frankly the only child. It wasn't anything new to him, it was something he grew up with and had always known was going to happen.
Being royal was a thing he had always admired and appreciated. He was very happy with the luck he had been given to live this life, and would do anything in his power to make his father proud and rule the kingdom with grace, kindness and justice. To do that, Clay also understood that getting married to the girl he had never seen ever in his life was something he needed to do. He had accepted that a long time ago; the wedding had been planned ever since he was six, when the neighboring kindoms decided to create an alliance. And marriage was the best way to do that- it was binding, unbreakable. The day of the wedding would also be the day he was crowned king.
Clay's uppbringing had concisted of two things; To always choose what was best for his kingdom, and to be a good husband. And that was exaclty what he planned to do.
Rain slowly started to pour down through Clay's blanket of comfort, and he let himself get soaked. It was cold, but he didn't wanna leave just yet. The day they would leave for the neighbouring kindom to meet his future wife was close now- only a day away. He was excited to finally do what he had been training for all his life, but at the same time sad about the fact that he would now completely leave his childhood days behind. Though that was something he had done a while ago, but now it felt final- more concrete. Not that he would miss his childhood that much, but he wanted enjoy this one last night before letting go of his carefree days.
Before heading back inside, he stepped out of his little bubble of comfort to look at the beautiful night sky. The rain had stopped pouring and the clouds had faded, for how long he had been sitting there remained unknown.
Once inside, he sat down in his beautifuly engraved window frame, looking out at the stars one last time before walking over to the comfort of his bed.
What he didn't know, was that in that moment, his soulmate was somewhere far away sitting just like him in his own window. Gazing up at the same enchanting night sky and carefully glowing stars.
