My name is James Smith, a 9 year old in what used to be called Georgia. In 2050 the Southeast (Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, The Carolinas, Louisiana, East Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida) split from the rest of the United States. They all became one country know as "The Separates". This was know as the "Separation Act". This caused so much conflict among the county. It even started another civil war. The war was over slaves again, just as the first civil war. It lasted from 2049 to 2054 and destroyed Nashville, Atlanta, Miami, and small cities around these bigger cities. Just as the first civil war, Atlanta took the most destruction. Civilians took shelter in what was called Phillips Arena. Patrick Andrews, the North's Military Overseer, ordered all of the armed forces to attack the arena. Over 1/5 of the population died during the attack on Phillips Arena. But, the south fought back and won the Civil War.

So now, I am sitting in my six foot long by six foot wide by seven foot high assigned room. Mr.Smith, my master assigned this room to me. But I don't like to call it my room. I like to call it my sanctuary. Even though it's wood has rotted, the planks on the verge of snapping into two, mold growing in the corners,a cold concrete floor, and a 2 foot wide hole in the top right corner of it, it is still my only safe place. It is the only place where master can't beat me, can't tell me what to do, and it's the only place I'm allowed to pray.
