"I have to kill him, or he's going to kill me"

_____________

FEBRUARY HAD ARRIVED, AND the snow left over from Christmas had melted. Hogwarts was enveloped by grey skies and a constant state of rain, making the grounds slippery and muddy.

Notices had been posted in every common room, asking any Sixth Years whether they wanted to take their Apparition lessons, for the small price of twelve galleons. Asteria, although she hated it, decided she would take the lesssons, as they might come in handy later in the future. Plus, she could mess around with Blaise for a couple of hours.

"Good morning." said the ministry wizard, when all the students had gathered in the Great Hall. "My name is Wilkie Twycross-"

Blaise sniggered, and Theo wolf whistled. Asteria shook her head. Idiots.

"I would like each of you to place yourselves so that you have a clear five feet of space in front of you."

He waved his wand, and old-fashioned wooden hoops found themselves in front of every student.

"The important things to remember are the three D's!" he exclaimed. "Destination, Determination, Deliberation!"

Blaise was doubled over with laughter, whispering obscenities to his brunette companion, who was pressing his hand over his mouth to stifle a laugh. From the corner of the room, Professor McGonagall stared them down with furrowed eyebrows.

"Step one: fix your mind firmly upon the desired destination," Twycross explained. "In this case, the interior of your hoop. Kindly concentrate on that destination now."

Asteria tried to focus on the dusty hoop in front of her, but found herself trying not to laugh when she saw Ernie Macmillan focusing so hard on his hoop, that his face was a deep magenta.

"Step two, focus your determination to occupy the visualised space! Let your yearning to enter it flood from your kind to every particle of your body!"

She tried thinking of the interior of her hoop only, but her stomach growled loudly, and she found her mind drifting to what she would have for dinner.

"Step three, and only when I give the command... turn on the spot, feeling your way into nothingness, moving with deliberation! On my command, now... one-"
