Summer once meant
More lonely time without children my age.
Then summer meant
I got time with new friends in memory making summer camp
Soon it was a looking-back remember summer
With new friends made in a summer haze and kept through
The turning of autumn leaves.
We survived two memories of summer before this
Winter's snowfall brought too much change.
Maybe come
Next summer
I can smile with you again.
But we've split our separate ways
And we're no longer innocent friends
Sharing crushes through games.
Now we try to catch glimpses through memories
Of summer's sunbeams and autumn's colors.
Come home to our friendship. We still
Have room to play again.
Do you remember the times?
Still look through our photo albums?
Remember breaking rules and being
Thick as thieves?
But now I try to catch summer's firefly memories
But come up with winter's cold snow
And empty spaces where your smiles should be.
