little bit angsty, sorry about that

Common colds are normal.  Everyone gets them.  I get them, you get them, and Karl has one right now.  It's the kind of cold that raises your body temperature up a couple degrees, stuffs your sinuses for a couple days, and leaves you tired with a pounding headache.

Nothing you can't live with.

It was a Tuesday afternoon when it hit him.  He was out picking up some groceries at the store when a wave of nausea hit him.  It wasn't enough where he felt he was going to vomit but enough to make him aware of the issue that he was probably sick.  Nevertheless he finished his errands as usual and made his way home.

The house was quiet.  Well, as quiet as it can get at 3pm on a weekday.  Karl dropped the bags of groceries onto the counter to put away later and made his way over to his bedroom.

The lights were off and the curtains were closed and the room was filled with darkness as Karl shut the door behind him and flopped down on the bed, passing out almost instantly.  He hadn't bothered taking his jeans off as he slept away in bed.

A shrill ring came from his phone.  He reached out and grabbed it, looking at the caller id.  George.  With a huff he pressed decline and rolled over onto his back.

His head was killing him and he felt hot and cold at the same time.  He could hear his boyfriend in the kitchen, obviously cooking dinner.  It must have been around 4:30pm.  Karl drifted off a bit more and just as he was about to fall back asleep a few short knocks were heard at his bedroom door.

"Yeah?" Karl grumbled, a little annoyed that he had been disturbed.  The door opened and Sapnap stood in the doorway.  The opening of the door had cast the hall light onto Karl highlighting his red face.

"You look tired," Sapnap comments, gesturing at Karl.  He rolls his eyes and sits up.  "I made some food, come and get it."

And with that Sapnap leaves the room is return to the kitchen.  Karl gets up and out of bed, smoothing down his disheveled hair a little bit and sauntered out into the kitchen.

The smell of the food caught his attention as his body his another wave of nausea.  As good as it looked it didn't seem appealing.  Nevertheless he got himself some food and sat next to his boyfriend at the table.

Upon hearing him seating himself at the table Sapnap puts down his phone and turns his attention on Karl.  Karl looks down to avoid his gaze and looks down at his food.  There is silence at the table as Sapnap eats his food and Karl push's it around with his fork.

Sapnap looks up.  "Do you not like it?" He asks in a casual tone.  Karl looks up but after hearing those words drops his head down.

"I'm just not hungry,"  He says, his voice cracking slightly under the emotion.  He slowly got up and walked back to his room, abandoning his bowl and his his boyfriend.

Sapnap sat at the table in thought.  Something was wrong with Karl.  He normally didn't act this way and the way his voice broke shattered his heart.  He decided to get up and go after him.

Karl laid in bed, silent tears rolling down his cheeks.  He didn't even know why he was crying as he basked in the dark of his room.  He could hear the door silently open and a weight down on the bed behind him.

A hand reached out and touched Karl's shoulder but he slinked away.  It was Sapnap.  He let out a shaky sigh.

"Karl," He began, pausing to see if there was any reaction.  "Are you feeling ok?"

Silence.

Then a soft sob was heard from Karl.  Sapnap once again puts a hand against Karl's back, for support as needed.

"Go away Nick," Karl says in between sobs.  Sapnap freezes but complies anyways standing up and leaving their room.

Darkness once again envelopes the room as Karl sobs until he falls asleep minutes later.

Karl's love language has always been touch, he and everyone around him knew that.  He always had an arm on one of his friends.  He constantly would lean against them for support.  It was even more constant with his boyfriend.  They were always touching and both of them enjoyed it.

Karl never liked being pitied or taken care of.  He always liked having the feeling of independence.  This included when he was sick.  He knew that he should drink lots of fluids and get some nutrition.  He knew he should sleep, and he did all that.  It was when other people got involved that he had an issue.

He didn't like when other people took care of him.  It made him feel like he wasn't independent and so he would push others away.

So he cried.  He slept and cried as that's all he could do at the moment.  Just waiting for the cold to wear off.
