(Kageyama's POV)

We sat in the waiting room for 3 hours before a female doctor came up to us.

"Miss Hinata. Shoyo is out of surgery and we have him resting in a private room. He is very lucky that the firework bounced off him before exploding or he would have lost his sight permanently, he will need further surgery in a couple of weeks once his eyes have healed properly but for the time being, I'm afraid he will be temporarily blind. We won't know until he wakes up quite how extensive his blindness is."

Natsu gave a sob next to me and I put my arm around her comforting her. I learned in the hours we spent here she was very much like her big brother, full of energy and optimism. I found it surprisingly easy to talk to them both, apparently, Hinata never shut up about me. I have to say I turned quite red when I heard this.

We were shown into a small room. Hinata was laying on the only bed and there were 3 chairs around his bed. Sakura (Miss Hinata) insisted I call her by her first name and Natsu took the two chairs nearest the door and I took the other one on Hinata's other side by the window. He was laying on his back I watched as his chest rose and fell as he slept. He looked perfectly fine apart from the large white bandage that covered both his eyes. His soft orange hair spilled out over the bandage and his pillow.

"He should wake up within the hour. His clothes and belongings are just over there."

She pointed behind me to the clear bag on the windowsill before she left closing the door. Sakura put a shaky hand to her son's head, just skimming his hair and bandaged cheeks frightfully aware not to cause him pain even while still sedated. Silent tears ran down her cheeks and she let out a heavy sigh. Natsu held his hand, smiling a smile that mimicked Hinata's joyful one even though she too had a steady stream of tears falling. I sat there staring at Hinata, my hand half stretched to his but I froze. I yearned to hold his hand, to feel its warmth in mine. But what if he woke up and snatched his hand away in disgust. Sakura must have sensed my internal struggle as she watched me.

"Tobio dear, it's ok to hold his hand. I'm sure he wouldn't mind," she said with a small warm smile.

I moved my hand the last few inches and my hand engulfed his small one. It was warm and smooth and fitted in my hand perfectly. My stomach fluttered at the contact and my chest tightened. This was all new to me, it had happened a few times now but only when I was with Hinata. It seemed I went from thinking oh that's the dumbass again, to oh there is MY dumbass. I let my thumb draw circles on the back of his hand as I watched his chest rise and fall, it was hypnotic.

After about 30 minutes I hear something but it's so small that I'm sure I imagined it. I look at Natsu, she is still asleep. Her head on her arm on the bed and Sakura's chin is resting on her own chest, eyes closed. That's when I feel Hinata's fingers starting to curl around my hand.

"Ka..ka..gma"

He groans softly. I see Sakura's head snap up.

"He's right beside you dear."

His grip tightens on my hand and I let out a nervous laugh, and he smiles that big warm smile that makes the butterflies in my stomach flutter faster. Tears start to leak down the side of my face and I squeeze his hand back.

"Mum, what happened?"

Hinata tries to sit up and Sakura and I grab him under his arms as he starts to shake. We use the remote and put the bed into a sitting position and fix his pillows so he is comfy. He lets out a staggered breath and puts a shaky hand up to his face touching the bandages around his head.
