ʿ WHY, MISFITS, OF COURSE. ʾ

I WAS ONLY THIRTEEN when my warm and cuddly father forced me to get over my fear of spiders. It was torture at the time, but now I thank him. Because if he didn't chain me up to that bed in that small, empty room with furry, eight-legged creatures crawling all over me for hours upon hours, then I wouldn't have ever heard their voices.

And I wouldn't have found friends in those tiny, frail, creepy crawlers.

I HARMONIZED MY VOICE while my sister, Vanya played the tune on her violin. She was never included in any of our missions, or family pictures. Dad said it was because she has no powers like me and my other siblings do. But I think that's still bullshit. She could be trained to fight and use her physical defense. But she never was.

I once tried to train her myself, but it only lasted two days because Luther caught us and snitched on me. I didn't talk to Luther for a week, and I tried to limit talking to Dad when it was only necessary.

So instead, I spent as much time with Vanya as I could so that she felt appreciated by someone in this cursed family. Although, sometimes Five would join us. He liked to listen to Vanya and I doing music together.

I held the last note as long as it took for Vanya to close the song we were doing. We looked at each other and smiled. "That was beautiful, Vanya! We should make a two-woman band." I giggled. Vanya laughed. "And what would it be called?"

"Hmmm.." I hummed, stroking my chin jokingly. "Why, Misfits, of course." I spoke with a British accent as I plopped on the couch and peeled my book open to the part I left at last. "Salem, please don't tell me you're re-reading the Harry Potter books again." Vanya sighed, moving my legs and sitting next to me, putting her violin away in the case.
