"Don't make me go." River begs that weekend as she waits in the opening hallway of the apartment. Richie sighs. She'd been like this all of yesterday.
"Have you had your anxiety meds?" Richie asks and River nods." You'll be fine. Nothing is going to happen to me, I promise."
"I don't want to go. You said I had a choice!" River says, eyes filling with tears. Richie didn't want to see her cry. He hated it when she cried.
"It's your brothers birthday. I can't get you out of it, River. I'm sorry." Richie sighs as the door knocks. River looks toward it, a little scared." Nothing's going to happen to me and nothing is going to happen to you. You can call me, baby, okay? I'm a phone call away."
River nods and then Richie opens the door. Isla smiles and River gives her a small smile back, an overwhelming feeling of sadness taking over her. She turns and hugs her dad tightly, not wanting to let go. He hugs her back and kisses the top of her head.
"Come on, let go." Richie says, but River doesn't let go of him, arms wrapped securely around his waist, tears burning her eyes." River, honey, let go."
"Come on, River, Dan and the boys are waiting in the car. We've got a long drive." Isla sighs, dragging her off of Richie. River bites her bottom lip in an attempt to stop crying." I'll drop her off on Monday."
"Okay." Richie says and then he watches as they walk away." Have fun!"
"It's one weekend, you don't have to be so dramatic about it!" Isla says in a low voice as they get to the car. River wipes away a tear and crosses her arms sternly." Get in the car."
River opens the door and gets into the car, putting on her seatbelt and trying to stop the tears from falling as they drive away. She just stares out of the window as Greg and Nathan argue beside her.
Eddie waves goodbye as he drops Quinn off at the Hanscoms. He was good friends with Ivy's dad Ben. The two had been staying at a hotel since Wednesday and now he was off to Richie's for the weekend, saying to Quinn it was a business trip. He hated lying to her but the girls couldn't know of his and Richie's arrangement. A whole weekend of just him and Richie sounded nice. He was going to fail the challenge and he knew it.
"You should've seen her face. I feel so guilty." Richie says with a sigh as he and Eddie sit on the couch. He was explaining what had happened that afternoon." She was crying and I just...Isla doesn't comprehend that River has really bad anxiety."
"It'll be okay." Eddie says and Richie smiles at him." What's the plan for today?"
"I was thinking dinner, movie, alone time." Richie states. He always called it alone time and it always made Eddie laugh." We can order in or I can cook."
"Let's order in. I feel like doing absolutely nothing. I am a free man, now." Eddie states and Richie chuckles." I love your laugh."
"Ew why? My laugh is so ugly." Richie chuckles. Eddie grins and shakes his head.
"It's not. It's cute. You do this thing where you make yourself laugh so hard you snort and then you laugh even harder. Your laugh is like super high pitched and loud and super contagious. It's great." Eddie explains. Richie grins and just stares at him." What? Is there something on my face?"
Richie shakes his head and leans over, pressing his lips against Eddie's. Eddie smiles and deepens the kiss, situating himself onto Richie's lap. The younger man places his hands on Eddie's hips whilst Eddie runs his hands through Richie's hair as they make out.
River sits quietly on her bed. She'd only been at her moms for two hours and she already wanted to go home. Her dad was at home. Her boyfriend was at home. Her best friend was at home. She was in a place she barely knew. Sure, Washington was a beautiful place and she loved visiting the Smithsonian. But she wanted to go there with Wren because she knew Wren would love it.
