Wren laughs at Ivy's joke as they get their lunch on Wednesday, making their way over to their usual table. River and Quinn were excitedly talking and writing stuff in notepads.
"What's going on?" Ivy asks, kissing Quinn's cheek before she sits down. Wren kisses the top of River's head and also sits down.
"Our dads are going on a date this Saturday and Quinn and I are allowed to plan it." River replies with a grin. Ivy and Wren nod." Now, here's what we've been thinking. Arcade date-
"We did that." Wren interrupts.
"Okay then a movie date-" Quinn begins.
"Too common." Ivy states. The two girls sigh and then River gets a genius idea. She smirks and her friends all look at her, confused.
"Okay here's the plan. So, we make them up a picnic basket, including a blanket and hand sanitizer because I totally remember Quinn's dad is a hypochondriac. We can put in paper plates and wooden knives and forks for them and write cute notes to remind them that we love them. Then, along with the notes, we write questions for them to ask eachother because we know they suck at communicating their feelings. It's a fun game to get them to open up and not feel awkward about it." River explains and they stare at her.
"Y'know, that's not half bad." Ivy says with a nod of approval. River grins.
"What's not half bad?" Comes a voice and they all look to see Richie standing behind Wren. Quinn closes up the notepad so he can't see her plans. This was a surprise.
"Just what we're planning for Saturday, which you can't know about." River states, grinning at her dad. He eyes her suspiciously." All you have to know is that you have to dress casual."
"Okay." Richie says and then he turns and walks away, the teens engaging in conversation once more.
Richie stands and looks at himself in the mirror on Saturday. He had no idea what to wear so he's thrown on a bright blue Hawaiian shirt with white polka dots on it and tucked that into some worn out black jeans. He looked somewhat presentable. He sighs and tries to brush out his knotted, long hair. It's neat, for now, but he knows it'll be a mess later.
Richie hadn't been out on a date since 2000. To say he was nervous was an understatement. Plus, he didn't know what to expect on this date as it was a total surprise. Wren is picking up both him and Eddie and driving them to the location of the date. Which, he discovers after the journey, is central park.
"Central park?" Eddie asks. Richie takes in his outfit. He's wearing white jeans, a navy polo and a tan cardigan over the top. His hair is wavy and fluffy, clearly not bothering with the gel like usual. He looks good. Really good.
"Yup." Wren replies, smiling at them." You gotta find Ivy, who will lead you to the date. Have fun."
"Thanks, mini Uris." Richie says as he and Eddie get out of the teens care. Wren grins wider and then the two men walk off to find Ivy.
It's not long until they find her and then she instructs them to follow her. Richie and Eddie glance at one another but obey the rules. They wanted a date not a scavenger hunt. But the girls had worked hard on this, so they were going to go along with it.
They eventually find their daughters stood in front of a red flannel fleece blanket on the floor which is covered in rose petals and paper hearts. On the blanket is a big wicker picnic basket. Quinn is standing in a lovely mustard dress whilst River is in a beige coloured one with a light brown beret. They smile at their dads and their dads smile back.
"Have fun!" Quinn says, hugging Eddie, who kisses her temple.
"Use protection!" River says, earning a laugh and a nudge from Richie. Then he kisses her temple too before hugging her. Then, the two girls wave goodbye to their dads, leaving them be with huge grins on their faces.
