I sat inside my twoleg home while it was raining outside. I sighed and jumped off the table. I walked over to my food bowl to see it there was any food left. But I found my pest of a room mate, Coco the dog, eating it all up. I hissed and clawed the little pest's hindquarters. He yelped and ran off to my owner. There was no more food left. I looked up and meowed angrily at my owners,

   "Get me some more food!"

But they only smiled and pet me like I didn't just order them to do something. My human needs more training. I trotted over to the door and meowed again. I meowed and meowed until they got up.

As they opened the door, I bolted out into the rain. I never minded the rain, actually. But most cats around my neighborhood hate the rain. I didn't mind the rain beating against my fur, and I only had to squint a little to keep the rain out of my eyes.

I trotted over to the forest and stared into it. For a couple moons now I always heard humans drive their huge cars in there. But I never knew why. I trotted into the cover of the trees. It was raining less hard in here. So I walked along the path I usually take and kept an eye out for prey. I would have to catch something out here if I wanted to eat. My color rubbed annoyingly against my neck. I spotted a branch sticking out of the ground. I walked over and attached my color to the tip of the branch. I tugged and slipped out of my retched color. I scratched my neck in relief.

I sniffed something underneath all the rain. It was an oily smell, like the smell that comes out of my human's car. I walked slower over to the smell, and then I started to hear the cars louder. I walked forward behind a bush and peered out. On the other side, a few yards away, two humans were putting up a sign. Their cars had stopped and they parked them in the thick mud. I blinked again to keep the rain out of my eyes.

Suddenly I heard a snapping sound behind me. I whipped around and stared up at a large human with a yellow suit on. I tried to run away but the mud below me made it impossible. I yowled as he picked me up. I struggled to get out, but the slippery suit made it harder. The human shoved me into a metal cage similar to the one my humans take me to the vet in. Instinctively I knew I was in danger. I yowled and tried to scratch the human but he held me at a far away distance.

"Coward!" I yowled at him. "Somebody help me! Help!" But the humans ignored my cries. The human that had me in a cage opened a shed and put my cage on top of some other cages. I peered inside the other cages, horrified. Other cats sat in there, some sleeping, some yowling for help. The human grunted and slammed the door again, locking us in here.

"You made a big mistake! I'm a house cat!" I yowled after them. "Release me! Please!"

But the humans didn't open the door. I slumped down onto the hard metal floor of my cage. I started to lick the mud off my feet and pelt. It tasted like gasoline.

"You ain't never gettin' out of here!" growled a gnarly black tom below me. "I tried."

I shivered and backed away. I pressed against the hard bars of my cage. I shut my eyes and tried to wake up from this nightmare. Everything happened too fast! I fell asleep wondering when my humans will come and get me.

I woke to more cats yowling. I looked up drowsily. When I spotted a gray and white she-cat in a cage across from me, my heart almost stopped. For a beief moment I thought it was my old kit, but when I looked closer I saw that her fur was different. I remembered how the cruel way the humans took my kits. But I knew they were in safe homes, protected from this rain. I sighed sadly.

I rested my head on my paws and gazed around, looking at all the different cats. I spotted a young brown tabby she-cat next to me. She was shivering and gazing around like she was about to get murdered.

"Hey you." I whispered. The she-cat looked around. "You!" She looked at me.

   "Yes?" she asked shakily.

"What's your name?" I asked her. "Mine's Cody." The she-cats' gaze softened.

"My name is Leafpaw." she replied.
