Serpents, Snakes and Secrets: The First Chapter

CHAPTER 4: THE STRANGE SORTING CEREMONY

The time had finally come. The grand and colossal doors to the Great Hall flung open inviting us all in to be sorted. We all started walking in; we were staring in awe at the magnificent aura that surrounded this room. It was decorated beautifully with students wearing hats and were clapping while we walked in. Most eyes were on me since as I mentioned before; everyone knows exactly knows who I am but I didn't know a single thing about them. It felt different than my last school and felt more magical. It felt like i had finally found my place but that is what i said last time. While walking, down the middle of the 4 long tables I saw the weird twins from the carriage and they waved at me. I also saw Blaise and he smiled at me shyly and i think i saw him blush a bit while Draco scoffs at me with his arms crossed.

We finally got to the front of the Great Hall and wave of nervousness came over me. I kept my head down while waiting for my name to be called. I was excited to see the famous Sorting Hat that sorted everyone. I had heard it know things about you that you didn't even know about yourself. It was fascinating to see the legendary hat judge people and sort them into the house it felt they belonged to and I wanted the same. They went through all the first years and they had all been sorted. It was now time for the small group of transfers to be sorted. There was only a small number of us, 8 to be exact, waiting to be sorted. I was in line and watched the other 3 in my group being sorted. That's when my name is called. While climbing the steps i heard whispers about me.

Barely audible but i know what they are about. Many of them were about who I was, my family, my parents and how I would end up in Slytherin like my mother, father and siblings; none of them knew that I wasn't like them and never wanted to be like them but my life is a dream of course. Then again i wouldn't be here.

I reached the top of the stairs and walked to the hat. It was placed on my head and my heart starting racing. I kept thinking of how i didn't want to be like my family and how i was different than all of them, we all knew inside why i was different.

The hat then said to me, "I can see that you don't want to be placed in Slytherin, I remember sorting your mother and father and i saw something similar in them and i saw the same thing in your siblings. However, i can see the same in you but the Energy is different than theirs. Your family is filled with scholars however they lack the creativity that you hold and i can see your potential flourishing in Ravenclaw". The hat screamed out, "RAVENCLAW"

The entire Ravenclaw table began to clap and cheer, whilst some had looks of distaste as the new walking social pariah had now joined their house. However the Slytherins gave me dirty looks as I walked over to the table and took a seat next to a tall boy that wore glasses preoccupied with a book on Magical Defences. I looked over at Draco who looked mad as if i had told him he was a squib all along or much worse a blood traitor. However i took no notice and talked to the boy next to me. He was a 4th year that was on the Qudditch team and played the position of a Chaser called Laurie. He was nice and we both chatted a little with each other a bit while eating, mentioning hobbies and subjects galore as well as more about the school.

We were talking about our favourite Qudditch teams while eating some pudding and that's when Blaise comes over and tell the boy to "Beat it or else" and let him sit down next to me. Laurie moves and frowns while Blaise slots himself next to me. He looks at me and says, "You made into to Ravenclaw, I expected Slytherin thought but regardless I'm just happy your here and not away from us again".

I smiled and said to him, "It seems like your the only person to say that so thank you for the support, i guess".

He chuckles and says, "Your welcome i guess. Anyway i have to go back to the Slytherin table
before they all get mad at me and call me a traitor again, Bye Raven"

We both chuckle and we both get up and he gives me a hug before going back to his table. That's when the 4th year asks me, "How do you know Zabini so well. Do you like him?"

I chuckle a bit and say to him, "Me, Zabini, Parkinson and Malfoy grew up together due to all of us being in the same hmmmmm neighbourhood so we know each other well and he is just a really good childhood friend to me, i just haven't seen him in years"

He looks at me and says, "Wait your the girl everyone has been talking about, belongs to that famous weird Moonshine family. Didn't you pay your way in".

I roll my eyes and say, "Yepp i am. I kinda could tell that everyone here already knew who i was" while sighing. He said he found out about me through the school's gossip paper that is ran secretly by a mysterious writer. It was called the Wiccan Word and would spread rumours and gossip with many being it's victim. He told me how last year there was a scandal of Slytherin 7th years smoking Weed before their exams to do better, all exposed by the writer.

Mid conversation i feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn to see Luna with two girls. She congratulates me on making Ravenclaw and she introduces me to 4th year Cho Chang as well as fellow 3rd year classmate Padma Patil and also explained that the four of us would be sharing a room together. They both seemed kind and friendly especially Cho since she smiled immensely and gave me a hug. She asked me if i played Qudditch myself and i said yes. At my last school i was on the Qudditch team as a beater and did extremely well. I helped bring my team to the finals however i didn't go to finals with them thought neither of them spoke to me outside games and practices. It's a shame we never went because of the incident. Mother and Father say i must not mention the incident

While Cho is trying to convince to try out for Qudditch, Luna interrupts her and says that we should go to our dorm room so I could settle in better. She stops talking and we start walking to the Ravenclaw common room.
