"Dad, I'm coming!" The 6 year old girl shouted as she ran down the stairs, stumbling on the last step. She was terrified he would leave without saying goodbye.
The tall man scooped her up into his arms before spinning around causing giggles to flow out of her mouth. He then set the small girl on the last step of the stairs.
"Stay here and cover your eyes. I've got a surprise for you." The man said to the child, who in response squealed with delight before covering her eyes with both hands. When she heard her father grab something she spread two of her fingers to try and peak to see what the present was, causing him to chuckle.
"Okay, you can open them now." The girl wasted no time in ripping her hands away from her eyes and looking down at the box he held out to her. She quickly opened it and squealed yet again when she revealed the large slim plank of wood with wheels attached to one side of it. She had seen boys around town riding on one of these and begged her father to let her have one.
"Now while your mom and I are gone I want you to practice so much that when we come back you'll be so good. Okay?" She nodded very quickly before throwing her arms around him in a tight hug.
"I'm going to miss you so much." She whispered, causing him to hug her tighter.
"Don't worry we'll be back before you know it and you can show us how good you've gotten on your skateboard. Besides, if you practice enough it'll be like no time has passed and we'll be back before you know it."
"Don't worry; I'll be the best skateboarder ever. The next time I see you I'll know every trick there is!" She promised.
She hugged her nannies waist as she watched her parents get into the car, waving as they drove off already hoping that the day they are supposed to return comes quick.
That was the day she learned that nothing good happens when you have hope.

There was no doubt William Walker was an attractive man. He was the kind of handsome that intimidated people from a far, making them too nervous to approach but the ones brave enough to do so's attention would immediately be calmed by his gentle eyes, who's deep brown welcomed any new comers with an excited glimmer. They glittered with the unknown that exploited everybody's natural instinct to be curious. That's how he pulled people in. He towers over almost everyone, well built and strong, but has never used his strength to harm a single person. His hair was a perfectly imperfect mess. While from a glance it looked like he had just woken up and hadn't put any effort into it, when one takes the time to examine, each strand seemed to be in the exact place it was meant to be. But his smile is what drew the one girl he had ever truly cared for in. His smile extended to his eyes and seemed to engulf the world around him in his perfect happy bubble, one that seemed to never be able to pop. He didn't just smile with his mouth; he smiled with his whole face, his whole body even.William's loud laugh echoed through the room of the small bar as he and his friends played a game of pool, and that is how he caught the attention of the perfect Olivia Davis. The American girl seemed to have no flaws on the outside, perfect hair, perfect skin, and perfect clothes. She was on vacation with her friends traveling around Europe when she stumbled into the bar which seemed to definitely be breaking multiple health codes. Olivia would never be caught dead in a bar like this which is why she calls it fate that they met that night. It was fate that her friend pulled her in the bar which seemed to be the only place open for miles to escape from the rain. It was fate that when she looked for the source of the loud laughter her eyes saw a man like she had never seen before. When their eyes met they both looked at each other with a blunt refusal to look away first. His smile grew as they looked at each other and that's when Olivia knew that she was quite frankly screwed, because now she knew that for the rest of her life she might never be able to look away.
Their relationship was messy and filled with fights but the mess had days where it seemed momentarily clean and filled with love. The two were nothing alike but she dropped everything and moved to a different Country for him causing a great divide between her and her mother. The couple then finally had something in common when they were 23 years old, a beautiful baby girl they named Jackie. William absolutely adored Jackie; the child was a mirror image of him and even mirrored his personality. Olivia Davis cared for the child too, but secretly resented her. Olivia's whole life was spent trying to earn things no one else had and she found that in William's love, for she was the only women he had ever truly loved before they had Jackie. Olivia was a truly selfish person, and that caused a distance between her and her daughter that was never given the chance to close.
The two parents never got the chance to see their daughter again and as Olivia took her final breath she had one of the few unselfish thoughts she'd have her whole lifetime. She had thought about her daughter and made a quick prayer that Jackie would live a long and happy life.
Unfortunately her prayers were not answered.
