Chapter 14

When they finished getting ready for the party the clock had already striked 6 pm.
"At what time does it start again?" George asked Clay as he looked up from his phone.
"I think Karl said around 7." Clay said and turned his phone off and tossed to the side. "Do you want to get food before we go?" George asked and mimicked Clay's movement, turning his phone off and tossing it to the side. "Sure, should we get going?" Clay said as he stood up from the floor and held out a hand for George, who sat sat on the bed. George nodded and took Clay's hand and stood up.

They walked together downstairs, hand in hand, when George heard someone talking in the living room.
"... and that boy so easily gets me n my nerves." The voice in the living room kept talking and George pulled Clay towards the entrance of the room.
"Hey, mum. Oh, hey, aunt Helen." George greeted the two women sat in the living room. Clay stood behind George in the doorway and waved.
George's aunts face fell and turned bright red.
"Oh, hello Clay." George's mother greeted, "This is my sister, Helen." Clay nodded. "Yeah, I know, she's my history teacher." George's mother looked between Clay and Helen, then suddenly her face fell.
"Oh, so you're talking about Clay?" George's mother asked Helen and Helen hesitantly nodded.
"Well it was nice seeing you two, we are going to go now." George said and waved them a goodbye with his unoccupied hand the dragged Clay along with him out the door.

When the boys were sat down in Clay's car they bursted out in laughter they had tried to keep in.
"Well, that was awkward." George said as their laughter had died down. "Yes, awkward indeed." Clay said as he wiped away tears from his face.
"What do you want to eat?" Clay asked and started the car. "I don't care." George said as he got Clay's phone out of Clay's back pocket. "Okay, then, we're going to McDonald's again." Clay said.
"Fine by me," George said as he typed in the passcode and opened spotify.
"May I put in a request?" Clay asked.
"Yeah, what song?" George said back.
"It's called 'Cigarette daydreams' by cage the elephant." Clay said as George typed in the name.

"Can I get one happy meal and a cheeseburger?" They had reached the McDonald's drive through and Clay was taking their orders. He finished taking their orders and went to the next window to get their food.
The worker passed them their food and hesitated for a bit before asking Clay: "Excuse me, you're kind of cute and I was thinking if I could get your number?"
Clay considered for a second before letting out his answer. "Sorry, I'm not that into girls." Clay said and paid for their food and drove away.
"Her face!" George said laughing, "That was so funny!" Clay parked the car in the McDonald's parking lot and George passed him his burger.

They finished their food in silence, except the faint music from the speakers. "Shouldn't we get going?" Clay said and started his car again. George nodded and turned up the music. "Can we listen to the song we listened to at your house earlier?" Clay asked.
"Sure, what song?" George asked and picked up his phone. "I think it's called like what you know or something." Clay said, focusing on the road ahead.
"Oh, yeah, What you know by Two door cinema club!" George said as he started the song.

The 15 minute car ride to Karl's house consisted of the two screaming to songs and dancing like there was no tomorrow. Clay stopped the car at on the sidewalk a few houses down from Karl's, considering that there could maybe be few people at the party already. A few, he thought. But as they walked closer towards the house they heard the loud music booming throughout the neighbourhood and Karl's driveway and the road leading up to it was filled with cars. "I didn't think that so many people would be here already." George wondered out loud and put his hand in Clay's. Clay nodded in agreement and squeezed George's hand as reassurance, George squeezing back.
