"Mama, how come Mino works here and Uncle Bobby works there?" Hyunjin said, sitting on a stool in the lab and pointing towards where he saw Bobby's office, which was unoccupied at the time. Jisoo had brought them there after they had eaten a quick lunch, and Yeji had changed from her school shoes to a comfortable pair of jelly flip flops.
"Because Mino's our friendly lab technician" Jisoo said, patting Mino on the back "And Uncle Bobby...." Jisoo paused for a moment, trying to find the best word "isn't."
"Nice work Mama yow, but I work in here because Bobby can't focus the microscope on anything without MY help" Mino said, obviously gloating, but enjoying the company he had. Usually he had people who weren't in the mood to talk, or were just annoyed with him.
"Mino?" Yeji said. "What happens if I press this red button?"
"Well, if you press the red button, the sprinklers in the lab go off. You only press it in case of an emergency where'd you need to use the sprinklers, like a fire." Mino said, picking up Yeji from her current position next to the big, red button and seating her on a stool next to Hyunjin. For some reason, he just didn't trust her. Kids and buttons never seemed to mix well.
"Oooooh" Yeji said, clearly enchanted with the red button.
"So Mama yow" Mino said, getting a look from Jisoo that he knew meant death. Mino had called him 'Mama yow' since the day the twins were born. Jennie tried to tell Jisoo that it was a term of endearment, that Mino saw her as a mother figure not only to the twins but also to him, but Jisoo didn't buy any of it. She knew Mino was taunting her about giving up her so-called 'playgirl' lifestyle, which never really existed, but Mino liked to think it did. "When is Jennie coming home?"
"Eh, when she called this morning, she said most likely Saturday or Sunday. Some really sick case they had, father used the cord of vertical blinds to kill his son." Jisoo said, looking over at Hyunjin. She could never imagine killing her own son, her own flesh and blood, something her and Jennie worked so hard to create. SHe rubbed Hyunjin's hair, causing him to squirm in his seat.
"Hey Mino yah, we have to head home. Its getting late, I have to cook dinner, feed them, and get them all cleaned up and off to bed before 8:30." Jisoo said, helping Yeji off the stool.
"OK, Mrs. Mama. Hey guys" Mini said, bending down to Yeji's and Hyunjin's height "I'm really glad you two came today, usually its so boring here with all the dead bodies and stuff."
"OK Mino, that's enough. Say goodbye, you two." Jisoo said, as Yeji and Hyunjin hugged Mino and said goodbye.
... .......
Thursday night came and went. As did Friday, day and night. Jisoo took the kids to the park again, this time for lunch. But when it started to rain, they had to run back to the car and head home. Jisoo was convinced Hyunjin had caught a cold, because he refused to put his jacket on and sneezed a dozen times during the ride home. Saturday was spent in the house, as the rain continued.
That night, Jisoo had ordered out for pizzas. She wasn't in the mood to cook again, and couldn't barbeque anything because of the rain. After they had watched "The Lion King", the twins went to sleep. Jisoo got into bed, coming to the realization that Jennie wouldn't be home until sometime tomorrow. She had sought out hope all day that she would walk through that door, and help her with their children. Jisoo was tired. Very tired in fact, that she fell asleep along with her children as they watched "The Lion King."
At around 1AM, Jisoo heard someone turning the front doorknob. She was so tired before she went to bed, that she couldn't remember if she had locked the door or not. Jisoo pulled on a t-shirt, closed the doors to Yeji and Hyunjin's room, and walked towards the living room. 'Good job, Jisoo, leave no lights on.' Usually they left the hallway light on, incase one of the kids had to use the bathroom. Jennie didn't want them walking around in the dark, they could bang into something and get hurt.
As Jisoo rounded the corner into the living-room, she saw a small figure standing, dripping wet. She inched his way closer. Whatever she had to do, this person wasn't getting near her children, no matter what it took.
"Chu?" The person asked. Jisoo realized that this person sounded very much like Jennie. She flipped on the lamp that was sitting on the end-table. As she looked up, she was her wife, soaked to the bone, standing in their living room. She ran over to her, and enveloped her in her arms. "Oh Chu, its so good to be home. I missed you so much." She said, kissing her shoulder with light, sweet kisses.
"Jennie, oh, Honey, I missed you so much, we've missed you so much." She said, in between kissing her wet hair.
At that moment, she didn't care about how wet she was getting the rug or the fact that the front door was wide open. All that mattered was Jennie, and she was right here with her.
"How are the kids?" Jennie asked, pulling away from Jisoo.
"They're absolutely amazing. They've missed you so much, Jen. I'm a good father, but I'm a lousy mother." Jisoo said, making her laugh.
"You would not believe how much we've worked today to be able to come home. Lisa was even starting to laugh at Bobby's jokes, the few he made." Jennie said, peeling off wet clothes as she walked towards the bedrooms.
"Jen" Jisoo said, wrapping her arms around her waist and kissing her neck as they made their way towards their bedroom, "I've missed you so much, you have no idea."
"Chu" she said, turning around in her arms as they went into their bedroom, "I think I have some idea." She said, kissing her. "Let me go get changed." She grabbed dry pajamas out of her drawer and headed towards the bathroom. She loved the feel of her home, how nice and cozy it was. Not like some hotel room. She always felt they were so impersonal, never special in its own way. Each the exact same.
As she walked towards Yeji's room, she picked up dolls and toys that were left by her children. Although sometimes she felt like a maid in her own home, she loved it and wouldn't change it for anything.
Entering Yeji's room made Jennie feel a sensation throughout her body. A maternal sensation, the type she felt when she first held her daughter or when she watched her take her first steps. It was the type of sensation Jennie loved and cherished with her entire spirit.
As Jennie brushed a few strays strands of curly locks away from Yeji's nose, she stirred.
"Mommy?" Yeji said, still slightly asleep. "You're home?"
"Yeah, baby, I'm home. Go back to sleep" Jennie said, kissing her forehead. "I'll still be here when you wake up tomorrow."
"OK, Mommy." Yeji said. It didn't take her long to fall back asleep.
As Jennie entered Hyunjin's room, she watched him as he slept. Hyunjin had the face of an angel, or at least in Jennie's mind he did. Once night, after Hyunjin had a bad dream and Jennie climbed in bed with him, she watched him sleep the entire night. There was something about his face that Jennie was captivated by. She didn't want to wake him up, so she just pulled the blanket over his leg which seemed to escape during his slumber, and kissed him lightly on the forehead.
"I'm home, baby." Jennie said. "Mommy's home."
