"Nathan stop" I order him, and he does so. I listen carefully as I think I can here... my dad. But how? He's miles away from here. There's no way he could be near here. How would he even find us?"What's wrong?" Nathan asks, concerned.
"I think I just heard my dad" I tell him, sitting up.
"Your dad? I'm not being funny but he's not here. You're just drunk" Nathan says.
"Where are they?" I hear my dad again. I tell Nathan and he just stares in confusion. I quickly put on my bra and top. Nathan groans.
"You have to put your top on too, Nathan" I order him.
"Jessa, you're just imagining him. He's not here. Just sit back down. Come on, please."
I begin to see lights, like police colours, reflecting on him below me. "Is that the police?" I ask and I turn around to see a police car approaching. Oh dear. I look at Nathan who looks extremely scared. "Nathan, get your top on. If this is my dad and he sees you topless, he's going to freak."
He scoffs and puts on his top with a moody face. I sigh and see the car pull to a stop. My eyes meet with my dad's as he steps out of the car with an officer. I can't help but roll my eyes. The police man comes up to the car and knocks on the window. "I'm going to ask the both of you to step out the car now" the officer orders us.
As I'm about to do as he asks, Nathan holds my wrist and says, "No." My eyes widen in shock and he stares at me with a very serious face.
"No?" The man asks.
"That right. I said no. Not until we have a reason to."
"Are you taking the piss? Nathan, we have to leave the car" I mutter.
"I haven't heard a reason yet" he whispers back.
"Well, you've committed two crimes sir. Theft and trespassing" the officer tells us.
"What?! When?" Nathan shouts.
"You stole this car and plenty drinks from the Carter residence, and you went into the house without the owner's permission therefore you have committed two crimes and we'd like you both to step out the car, so we can talk like adults."
"Wait really? Trespassing? I let Nathan into the house, I let him drink the alcohol and eat the crisps from my house. And I took the car because it's technically mine too. I'm sorry but Nathan has done nothing wrong. This is all me. Arrest me or whatever" I shout from inside the car. Nate looks at me with a confused expression and I give him a soft smile.
"Please exit the vehicle" the man impatiently shouts.
"Not until you tell us what happens when we get out!" Nathan yells.
"I'm not asking again. If the two of you don't get out of the car then things will get worse, so I suggest you do as I say."
Nathan and I stare at each other, kind of worried, and then slowly get out of the car. My eyes lock with my dad's and he looks like he wants to murder me. I would smile to ease the tension, but knowing my dad, he'd just think that I'm being cheeky.
My mom steps out of the police car and she pulls out a packet of cigarettes. She lights one to smoke. I sigh and shake my head. Nathan and I lean against my dad's car and the police man asks us if we have any drugs. We answer with no, and the man still checks us. He finds nothing and starts searching the car. As he does so, we share some eye contact, and he looks so hopeless. I hope he doesn't get arrested for this. The eye contact gets broken by the man pointing at a pile of empty beer cans on the grass "What is this?"
