"Rosa!" SuAh called out from inside the car. The beeps of the car honk hit against your eardrums causing you to question why they had to exude such a horrendous sound. Maybe it does serve its purpose. I sure as hell would do whatever necessary to make it stop. "Come on!"
Rosa then appeared from her front door carrying a basket in hand. Her hair was falling loosely over her shoulders with her curls bouncing up and down with every movement she made.
She locked her door and ran up to the car. Once she hopped in the passenger seat he took in an exasperated breath. "Don't rush me, I'm not as young as I used to be." She turned back to shoot you a smile.
"That excuse doesn't work. Especially after last week at the dance hall. Mhm, we saw you Thottiana." You joked before leaning forward and taking Rosa's hand in yours. The car burst into laughter. That high energy was held for the rest of the car ride through conversation and carpool karaoke.
The three of you strolled along the park's paths taking in the fresh smell of grass and flora. The subtle sun rays were hitting against your exposed arms and legs providing you with enough warmth to make up for the previous cold and gloomy days.
Eventually, you all settled down at the small picnic you had set up. "Okay, before we start eating can we sing first?" SuAh requested while pulling out the chocolate cake she had been texting you all week about. It was a special request low-fat, low-cholesterol, raspberry chocolate cake SuAh had to book two months in advance at some fancy bakery. As she revealed the cake Rosa's eyes lit up and your mouth watered at the desert.
"It looks amazing!" Rosa exclaimed as the dessert was placed in front of her.
"Thank you," SuAh smiled proudly. "I bet it tastes better than it looks."
You quickly placed and lit three candles on the cake and then began. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Rosa!..."
Poor Rosa had to stand your not-so-great tone, luckily SuAh's angelic voice made up for the parts where you lacked. Rosa clapped along to the harmonies of the song boasting a radiant smile. Once she blew out the candles and made her wish you and SuAh tackled her into a group hug. Rosa cackled at this.
You separated, recuperating to your places. "Okay one- more thing" you grinned sharing a knowing look with SuAh. From your purse, you pulled out a gold envelope wrapped with a black ribbon and handed it to Rosalia. "Happy birthday again Ro, this is from both of us."
A little sceptical, Rosa accepted the envelope and slowly pulled the ribbon off to open it. You nervously bit on your bottom lip as your heartbeat was starting to pick up speed. When Rosa started sliding the paper out of its pocket, you found yourself holding your breath as Rosa silently read over the text.
You concluded that she realised what the gift was when Rosa lightly gasped and a hand landed on her heart. Tears didn't fall far behind as they instantly built up in her eyes.
