Chapter 14

After the last conversation with Xavier, I avoided long talks with him. The only thing we talked about was me briefing him about his day. The whole week passed in that way. And the day which I was dreading the most was tomorrow and I have to talk to Xavier about it. I went to his office and knocked on his door.

"Come in, "he said and then I entered.

And there he was sitting in his chair with his jacket off, sleeves folded up, hair disheveled but he still looked hot. Was I really thinking about my boss as hot? but he is also going to be my husband so I think it's okay for me to think of him as hot.

I must have been ogling him quite long and he must have noticed it as well because when I finally looked at his face, he had a smirk on his face.

"Liked what you see?" he asked with that stupid smirk still on his face.

I cleared my throat and went to sit in front of him. He just sat there and waited for me to talk." So tomorrow we are celebrating Dashami." his eyebrows were narrowed hearing about this festival so I continued explaining to him, "look, it is the festival we celebrate for several days and tomorrow is the last day of it so we are celebrating it. So it will be nice if you come during the puja a little early, maybe around 10 in the morning?" he just merely gave a nod which I returned."I will leave then. See you tomorrow." 

Just when I turned to leave he interrupted, "Where is your ring, Arunima?" Instantly I stopped dead in my track and my hand went to my ring finger.

"I...umm....yeah, I thought that if I wear it in the office then they would ask questions." I took out the ring from my purse and put it on my finger again.

 He stood up and walked towards me in a calculated manner as a walks towards his prey. The look in his eyes makes me want to run away but his gaze pinned me to my place. He finally stood in front of me, too close for my comfort. But I was unable to say anything because I was lost in his ice-blue eyes. He gently took my hand and kissed the ring and then leaned and whispered in my ear, "this ring shows that you are mine .you take that ring out and there will be consequences." He kissed me just below the ear and a shiver ran down a spine. He must have noticed my reaction because he chuckled and then moved away from me and went to sit in his seat.

"You can leave early today." He said. It's then when I realized what happened just a few moments ago. I quickly nodded and almost ran out of the office to the restroom. I looked myself in the mirror and saw that my face was fully flushed. my hands went to touch the skin below my ear Xavier had kissed. I could still feel the heat of his lips on my skin.

"Control yourself Arunima," I said looking at the mirror."It's not a big thing. He is going to be your husband so it is normal.No no need to act like a teenager. You can handle it." I took a deep breath and looked in the mirror. I looked better than a few moments ago. It's good that I am returning home now. At least I don't have to face him anymore.

After returning home the rest of the day went in preparing for the puja the next day and avoiding the topic Xavier with my family. It was late when everyone went to their room. after getting ready for bed when I finally hit the bed I was out like dead.

The next morning  I woke up when the sunlight hit my face. I tried to stretch myself but there were weights on me but I found my two children sleeping on me. A smile came to my face. I lifted them gently one by one and put them beside me. I tucked them in and kissed their forehead and stood to leave when kakima came into my room.

"He knows about them, right?" she asked looking towards Arush and Arushi.

"Yes." No. I lied. Maybe when he sees them he would back out from his own proposal. I could only hope for this. 

But she seemed to buy my lie and the tension that was on her face eased. She smiled and sat on my bed." So when are they coming", she asked."

"Around 10". I told her while getting ready for the day.

"And you are telling me now. How am I going to prepare the lunch. How is everything going to happen? You should have told me earlier." She started pacing in the room.

I had to literally hold her down and sat her down on the bed again."You do not have to be worried about anything. I have everything under control. You just make sure that everyone is ready on time for puja, Okay?"She smiled and just nodded."And one more thing kakima. Samantha is coming and you know she will wear something traditional today and I will be quite busy. So can you please help her?" I gave her my puppy eyes.

She just laughed," You are an idiot. Why would I not help you?  But call Samantha a little early and ask her not to bring her things. I have brought something for her and Josh." 

"Okay"

She went away and I started getting ready for the day with only one thought in my mind," How will today change my life."
