Ever since she was a little girl, Cassie been obsessed with the stars. She knew every constellation and where you could find it. She knew the names of various celestial bodies. And she dreamed of mapping the whole universe, and seeing the stars.
As Cassie grew older, she had a rough time at school. A lot of the times, the stars were her only comfort. Cassie's mother left one night and never came back. Cassie cried that night, alone, under the stars. When Cassie's dad died in a car crash, the stars were all that Cassie had left. They watched over her and stayed with her, even after she moved across the country to attend collage at the Massachusetts Insitute of Technology in order to study astronomy.
The stars were there with her when she got her first boyfriend. And they were with her when he cheated, and then dumped her.
The stars were there when Cassie started drinking, and skipping school.
They were there when Cassie hit an all time low point in her life, and got kicked out of college, because she had begun failing her classes.
They were there as she rethought every little thing that had gone horribly wrong in her life, and they comforted her, because even though everyone else had left her, Cassie knew that the stars had always been there.
In the end, it was the stars that helped Cassie do something meaningful with her life. And it was though the stars that Cassie finally found happiness.
