It's been 4 months and it is now time for the draft. I've been waiting for this day forever.
I'm able to fully play basketball now. However despite that my draft stock heavily dropped.
I sat In the draft room waiting to hear my name be called.
Adam Silver: with the 1st pick in the 2025 NBA draft the San Antonio Spurs select Jaylen Wright SF Duke University.
Of course everyone knew Jaylen would be drafted first, to no surprise. A year ago I was regarded as the number one prospect in the country. Of course I got injured and now I'm projected to maybe get drafted in the 2nd round if I'm lucky
---Timeskip---
Silver: with the 23rd pick in the NBA draft the Sacromento Kings select Dylan Wade PG from Florida University.
As soon as I heard this I couldn't help but smile, my teammate just got drafted. I was extremely happy for him. Now I could only hope I would be next.
Adam Silver: And now with the 24th pick in the NBA draft the Phoenix Sun's select James Kenya.
I smiled once again. My teammates were both drafted back to back. I was ecstatic. Nothing could have made me happier but one thing, and that was me being drafted as well.
TimeSkip----
It's now the late second round, I can't say I'm too surprised I've fallen so far. It did hurt deep down, but Not a lot of teams are willing to take a risk on a rookie coming off an injury, especially with the one I sustained.
Adam Silver: Now with the 54th pick in 2025 NBA draft the Detroit pistons select (Y/N) (L/N) SF Florida University.
I couldn't believe it, I had finally been drafted. I did the one thing I've always wanted to, I finally achieved my dream. If my dad were here I could only imagine the look on his face.
I walked up on the platform, while being handed a pistons hat. I couldn't believe it. This is what I have always dreamed of. Following in the footsteps of players like Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki.
I walked back and immediately FaceTimed Dylan. He answered and shouted at me.
Dylan: MAN WE DID IT, WE FINALLY DID IT.
Y/N: of course we did, you guys deserve it, you worked hard to get to where you are right now.
Dylan: come on let's be real here, this is all becauseof you bro.
Y/N: no way, you guys worked harder and harder everyday. This is all on you.
Dylan: We all made and that's all that matters man, you ready to tear up the league?
Y/N: of course man, but we gotta make the rotation first
Dylan: whatever man, but look at us. Future NBA hall of famers.
I laughed at this.
Y/N: let's not get ahead of ourselves. We gotta earn that starting position first.
Dylan: alright bro, I gotta end it short. The fam is ready to celebrate. But hey talk later?
Y/N: of course bro. Talk to you soon.
I ended the FaceTime, and laid back in my chair. I honestly wasn't sure what was next for me.
Timeskip-------I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing, I looked and saw a caller ID I wasn't familiar with.
Y/N: hello
???: hello is this Y/N?
Y/N: yes this is
???: well I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Dwane Casey and I'll be your head coach. As long as you show you're ready to work hard and are able to prove yourself, this will be your home for quite a while.
Y/N: it's a pleasure coach. I will aim to prove myself and gain a position on the main roster.
Coach: well, I'm glad to hear that. The media have been asking why we drafted you. I believe you can still be the same Y/N L/N we seen one year ago. The same player who took the Gators to a national championship.
Y/N: I promise you this coach, this wasn't a mistake. I will do whatever it takes to win. I will make my teammates better. I can do it all.
Coach: well then, I believe I've made the right decision. Don't make me change my mind. I'll see you soon Y/N.
Y/N: you definitely will, and coach.......Thank you.
I heard the call end a few seconds later.
It still felt so sureal to me. I was gonna be playing for the pistons summer league team soon. I knew I had to prove myself again. But hey nothing ever comes easy in this world does it?I checked Twitter, and looked at my tags. I seen a bunch of my fans celebrating that I had been drafted.
I even liked a few tweets. But what caught my attention was the pistons tweet.
(Pistons fans welcome our new rookie, Y/N L/N.)
I looked at the replies and seen a mix of reactions.
(Why would you waste a draft pick on an injured rookie?)
I laughed at this reply. I know I'll prove them wrong. These comments have always motivated me. I always knew if I proved them wrong I could become better for not only myself but others as well.
I also seen some positive comments
(This is an absolute steal, how could he have fallen to the 54th pick. Im not complaining though)This made me happy, it felt good that people still supported me and wanted me on there favorite team.
I stood up and sighed. It was time for a long workout. Can't slak off now that I got here. It would only get harder from here.
