I was at home, thinking about what the doctor said.

---Flashback---
(Y/N): I'll be healed in time for the draft right doctor.

Doctor: you should be good to go but it's not guaranteed.

(Y/N): That's not exactly what I wanted to hear but it's good enough.

End of Flashback

(Y/N):*Thoughts* what if I can't come back from this, what if I am just a failed college recruit.

Then my phone rung, I looked at the caller ID and seen the name *Dad*

(Y/N): hello dad

Dad: hey kid how are you?

(Y/N): I'm okay, could be better honestly

Dad: well I believe I know why, just know I'm proud of you no matter what.

(Y/N): I know you are dad

Dad:Listen I called to ask if you wanted to have lunch with me tomorrow.

(Y/N): sure dad,where though?

Dad: meet me at Tilly's cafe

(Y/N): actually I have been wanting to try that place.

Dad: well than I'll see you then, have a good night (Y/N)

Y/N: you too dad

---Timeskip---
I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing, I checked the time and it was 8am

Y/N: Hello?

???: uhh, I'm looking for a Mr Y/N L/N

Y/N: speaking

???: I have some bad news you may want to sit down for this.

Y/N: I am

???: I regret to inform you that your father passed away, he was caught in a shootout this morning

The words that came out after that Statement were on deaf ears, my heart shattered and the world around me started to crumble.

Y/N: come again?

???: I know it might be hard to hear this but your father is no longer with us.

It wasn't a miscommunication my father was really gone

Y/N: uhh, thank you for letting me know have a good day

Before she could reply I hung the phone up. My eyes filled with tears. I didn't know what to do without him.

I thought back to all the memories we had.

---Flashback---

Dad: hey buddy get up were gonna go play catch.

Y/N: really dad?

Dad: of course, it's been to long since we last did.

He gave me his signature smile and we walked out to the backyard.

---End of flashback---

Y/N: Why did you have to leave me dad, we still had so many memories to make.

I eventually cried myself to sleep and woke up a few hours later.

I grabbed my phone and seen a bunch of news articles

"College basketball star Y/N L/N's father passes away."

"Father of college star Y/N L/N passes away in early morning."

I cant say it didn't annoy me that they would release this info but they only care for money. I wanted to cry but I couldn't my body wouldn't let me.

I didn't know what to do without my dad he was my everything, my best friend.

---Timeskip---

It was around 6 weeks later, my father's funeral had come and went. I told myself I wouldn't cry anymore, he wouldn't want me to, I know he would want me to keep working towards my dream.

I'm finally able to walk again. It was around noon and I had decided to take a drive down to the basketball court near my apartment.

I'm able to shoot free throws but as of now can't take any jump shots.

I've still got about 8 weeks to go before the draft. I'm hoping someone takes a chance on me.

I began shooting a round of 25 free throws.

I missed the first 5 then went on a streak. I ended up going 18 for 25. Eventually I heard a voice

???: is that who I think it is?

I turned to the door and looked and saw none other than Portland Trailblazers Point Guard Damian Lillard

Damian: Ahh,I thought it was you. Mr Y/N L/N would never have thought to see you here.

He walked over and gave me a handshake.

Y/N: Wow, its a pleasure to meet you Mr:Lillard

Damian: hey man, the pleasures all mine; you healing up well?

Y/N: ah, actually pretty well. I can walk now.

Damian: thats great man, Making progress like this and you'll be healed in time for the draft.

Y/N: I'm hoping so, I've always wanted to play against you before you retired.

Damian: well I still got 3 or 4 good years left so you'll get your chance.

Y/N: I'd be up for the challenge

Damian: Im all for it, but who knows you could always end up on the same team.

Y/N: That would be an honor to play with a legend like you

Damian: hey, look I want to give you some advice. If you don't get drafted early don't let it get to you, countless players have been drafted late and still make a crazy impaxt, and most importantly make sure you fully heal from your injury.

Y/N: I'll be happy if I get drafted no matter what, that's a once In a lifetime opportunity.

Damian: I like your mindset, you have to make sure that teams know how bad you want this and why you should be picked. Do what ever it takes man. Give them a reason to draft you over the other players in the draft with you

Y/N: I'll do whatever it takes to be drafted, It's been my dream for ever and I want to achieve this dream in my father's honor

Damian: I like that, never forget who helped you along the way some players change once they get to the big leagues.

Damian was a extremely respectable person, he's made me ease a lot of the stress that has built up over the draft.

Damian: I gotta head out now, I used up all my freetime for now.

Y/N: sorry about that.

Damian: don't worry about it I was great to finally meet you, I know you'll do great things for any team that drafts you.

Y/N: thanks man, it was great meeting you too.

Damian: keep in touch kid, I'll see you in the big leagues.

Y/N: I'll definitely keep in touch, see you another time.

Lillard walked out of the gym and now I was alone again. I decided I'd call it a day and head back home.

I walked out of the arena and hopped into my car and drove home. When I got home I realized I was pretty hungry, so I decided to make myself a sandwich.

I plopped down on my couch and turned on (F/S) (favorite show) I always like this show. It was so interesting to me. After an hour I decided to check on my social media and seen a few people posted jersey swaps of me In their favorite NBA teams.

I was in awe at the authentic look to these jersey swaps. I had two favorites, one being the Memphis grizzlies Throwback jerseys, another were the vice city miami heat jerseys, I liked some of the posts and ended up going into my room and sleeping for the rest of the day.
