Insecurities. We all have them. Whether it could be you're afraid about your appearance, or concerned about how good or bad you are at something, or you just don't feel like you're good enough. But you know what? I'll tell you right now that you are good enough. You are perfect as you are.
The person who can be the meanest to you, is yourself. When you look in that mirror, and you criticize yourself over what you see, that is what's bringing you down.
As a teenager myself, I'm often in the situation where I look in the mirror and I don't like what I see. That's just life. But instead of thinking to myself "Oh, I'm ugly. Everyone is better looking than me. I hate how I look," I try to compliment myself instead. For example, instead of saying "Ugh, my acne looks disgusting today," I'll find something else that I can compliment myself on. So I can say "Yeah, my acne doesn't look great but girl, our hair today? It's lookin' good!"
Please don't tell me that there isn't possibly anything that you can compliment yourself on because I can guarantee you that would be a lie. If you don't happen to like how you look, you can say, "You know what? With my amazing personality, I'm going to make people smile today." There's always something, trust me. If you don't happen to see it in yourself, go to a trusted adult or friend and talk about it! I bet they will list countless things that make you an amazing human being.
For those who are dealing with people who are bullying you and putting you down, I know it's going to be hard, but the best you can do it just not care what they say. It's a big ask, I know, but trust me, once you get into the habit of making these changes of not caring what people think, it will change your life so much.
If someone comes up to you and puts you down, fire back at them. If they say that you're not good at something, say "Okay. And? Your point?" You showing them that you don't care about their pointless opinions tells them that you are stronger than they will ever be. If they say they're better than you at something, or they are more attractive than you, say "At least I don't have a shitty personality like you." Because it's true! They're probably only trying to bring you down because they're jealous of you. Be glad that you aren't them.
It can be hard to accept who you are as a person, I understand that. It can take some time but when you get older, you'll look back on yourself and think "Why did I ever care so much about what other people thought of me?" Or "Why did I ever hate myself so much?"
Take the king Harry Styles for example. In his early career, he often struggled with the fact that he wished he was the kind of person who didn't care what other people thought of him. I quote him from 2012, "I've always wanted to be one of those people who didn't really care that much about what people thought about them. But I just don't think I am..." He struggled with who he was as a person, just like so many people in this world. But guess what? He learned to accept who he was as a person and look at him now!
He is living his best life! He's on covers of countless magazines, he's been nominated for the Grammy's 3 times, both of his albums have topped the charts in countless countries, (I could go on) and he has taught so many people around the world that it's okay to be yourself. Don't pretend to be something that you're not.
You are beautiful. Inside and out. You don't need to change. You are perfect as you are. If you're afraid that people won't like you for who you are, don't be. That's their problem, not yours. If they are your true friends and family, they will love you no matter who you choose to be. You only live once. Choose how you wish to live your life.
