Chapter Ten

Jason Durance didn’t go out on Halloween night. He just stayed at the Mckenzie’s house because he was asked to babysit two children who were boys. Dale, a 7 year old boy and Riley, an 8 year old were the kids that Jason will take care of tonight. Dale and Riley’s parents instructed Jason to make the kids sleep early and don’t allow them to play games or watch cartoons online.

The two boys are so addicted in playing games online in different websites and when there is school, they most of the time get lazy and lose interest in their studies. Their parents are getting worried that if they won’t be able to stop playing games online and watching a lot the whole day in front of the computer, they might end up having a blurred vision.

Jason has a very long patience when it comes to kids. He enjoys babysitting Dale and Riley all the time. Since Dale and Riley were born, Jason already knew them. His family greatly owes the Mckenzies because when he was little, the Mckenzies also took care of him. Whenever his parents had a lot of important things to do and won’t be able to take care of him for being busy at work, the Mckenzie family never hesitated to look after him. Now that he is all grown up, he is just returning them a favor.

His family is not rich and cannot afford to pay a babysitter to look after him when he was younger but luckily, the Mckenzies volunteered to do so and didn’t ask anything in return. He went to the room of Dale and Riley to check if they were already sleeping and when he did open the door of the kid’s room, he is glad to see that they are asleep. Dale and Riley had always been sharing the same room and sleeping in one bed. The two kids can’t be separated from each other especially if it’s sleeping time for they are afraid to be alone at night. They are sleeping in a double deck bed where Riley is on top while Dale is sleeping on the lower part of the bed.

He has no idea that the two kids are just pretending that they are already asleep. When Jason left the room and closed the door, Dale quickly got up from bed and asked his brother Riley to watch their favorite cartoon series using the internet.

“Hey Riley, Jason is no longer here in our room. Get up and watch with me online”.

“What if he sees us Dale, he might tell mom and dad that we are still awake late at night and disobeying him. When that happens, mom and dad will punish us”.

“He won’t hear us Riley if we will just keep quiet and won’t make a single noise. Don’t worry because I will always watch your back”.

“Ok, whatever you say Dale”.

Dale and Riley did watch cartoons on the internet without Jason knowing. Jason is busy washing the dishes in the kitchen and he is already feeling sleepy but trying to stay awake. He will just sleep when he is done with all the household chores.

He heard Dale laughing which had made him aware that they are still up doing something in their room. He went to check what the kids are doing and he did caught them watching cartoons in front of the computer.

“What did your parents told the two of you”?

“They told us to sleep early and don’t watch cartoons late at night”. Dale answered back.

“Were sorry Jason if we didn’t sleep early and was just pretending. It’s just that we are not yet sleepy right now. Please don’t tell mom and dad about this. They will punish us if you tell them that we are disobeying you”. Riley said.

“I won’t tell your parents about this but in one condition, I will let you watch cartoons for a couple of minutes but when I’m done with all the household chores, I want the two of you to agree with me in going to sleep”. Do we have a deal?

“Yes Jason, a deal is a deal”! Dale said.

Jason went back to the kitchen to finish washing the dishes at the lavatory. He also did some sweeping around the house. He also had the bathroom clean and when he’s done, he went back to Dale and Riley’s room to help them go to sleep by reading them a comic book story about heroes. Finally, the two kids fell asleep and Jason went to his usual room at the house whenever he does babysit which is in the guest room.

The Mckenzie’s house is very simple. There are only three rooms in the house which is enough for one family and only has two floors. Dale and Riley’s parents work in the call center industry having high positions which makes them so busy and mostly, they go home around 9a.m., and it is the only time for them to rest and get some sleep. Jason entertained himself listening to the radio using his cellphone until he fell asleep.

Around 1:00a.m., Dale woke up because he needs to go to the comfort room to pee. When he went back to bed, he looked outside their window and saw a man wearing black clothes standing beside a tree. The rain started pouring down the sky and Dale can see the man outside getting wet. He woke Riley and told him about the man that he saw outside. Dale thought the man is pitiful and might get sick because of getting wet on the rain. He told Riley that they need to let him enter the house. Riley saw the man outside and he got freaked out and was hesitating to agree with Dale’s decision to let it enter inside.

“Riley, I think we should let him enter our house”.

“Aren’t you getting scared of him? He looks creepy to me Dale”.

“I’m not scared of him. He is just wearing a mask. Besides, Halloween just finished a while ago”.

“I don’t know if it’s a good idea to let him enter here Dale. He is a stranger and we don’t know anything about him”.

“I just want to help him. Don’t you think he is pitiful getting wet outside”?

“Ok, let’s go outside and let him enter”.

Dale and Riley opened the door of their house and let the man wearing black clothes enter inside. He was wearing a bandit mask on his face so they can’t tell what he looks like.

“Do you want to play hide and seek”? Dale asked.

The man didn’t answer Dale and had been quiet the whole time. They played hide and seek which the kids enjoyed. Dale and Riley will be the one hiding while the man will be the seeker. Dale went to the kitchen and hid under the lavatory closing the cabinets. Riley went to their bedroom and hid inside the closet.

When the seeker had found them, things go horribly wrong and their night had been the worst nightmare of their lives. The man started scaring Dale and Riley by pointing a knife at them. Dale started crying and Jason heard him. Jason abruptly woken up and continue hearing Dale’s cry. He immediately got up from bed to check what has been happening to the kids.

Jason saw the kids in their room with the man pointing a knife at them. He started protecting Dale and Riley from the man. The kids almost got stab by the man but Jason stopped him by grabbing him with his body and they both fell on the floor.

Jason and the man went clashing on the knife. The man is so strong but he was able to handle him and he punched the man on the face. The knife slipped off their hands and when it did, Jason carried a chair on the room and had hit the man on the head. The man fainted and Jason asked Dale and Riley to get out of the house and run as fast as they can all the way to the police station nearby to report what is happening in the house.

“Listen to me very carefully, I want the two of you to get out of the house and go to the police station and ask for help”.

“How about you Jason”? We can’t leave you here. Riley said who is getting worried for Jason.

“I will be fine here. I can’t leave and go with the two of you because I have to make sure this man doesn’t escape before the police come here to get him. Now go and do as I say”.

Dale and Riley went out of the house and did run all the way to the police station. Jason got curious who the man wearing a bandit mask was. He thought that it may be Paul Breckmann and if it’s him, he wants to make sure that he won’t be able to run away from the police again.

 He went near the man to remove the bandit mask on its face but when he was about to do it, he failed because the man suddenly went back to its senses and had the chance to heavily stab Jason. The man was not contented in stabbing Jason just once and he did stab him plenty of times until it was sure that Jason is dead.
