Shots rang out as numerous hydra agents hit the floor in response to the bullets. You stayed behind Bucky, peeking over his shoulder every few seconds as the two of you walked through the hallways, looking for an exit.
Passing the room that you were never allowed in, you decided to peek in through the small window, just to know what it contained.
Piles upon piles of boxes labeled things such as "y/n's baby clothes" or "Y/n's toys" were stacked to the ceilings, pictures were scattered everywhere, lab reports, data, charts, and more decorated the walls. This was worse than the board you guys had found at the abandoned base.
As if that wasn't enough, to top it all off, in the room with a pair of scientists, was your mother.
They were all searching the room, dumping out boxes, scanning through mounds of crap. A sense of urgency was prevalent and you wondered what it was that they were searching for.
"Y/n, come on!" Bucky yelled over the sounds of fighting.
That was enough to snap you to the realization that you needed to get out of here, whatever was in that room came second to escaping.
Sam ran to you and Bucky and handed you a gun and a comm, he had his goggles on, but you saw tears of relief clinging onto his waterline.
"Glad we found you." he said as you put the comm in.
"Felt that." you laughed.
Once clicked in, you continued the move.
The sound of a child's scream ripped through the air. Sam and Bucky looked around in confusion and you instantly recognized it. How could you not?
"Peter." you gulped.
All logic was thrown out of the window and you realized what this was about- you were being used to try and end the Avengers.
"I need eyes on the kid." you said to the comm as you took off in the direction of where you heard the scream.
"None." everyone said in unison. You mentally face palmed and continued to run through until you reached a large empty space.
The sight before you was enough to kill you on its own. One guard holding Peter's arms, which were in some fully covering hand cuff- type thing. Another holding him by his neck. And of course, your mother, circling them, clicking her heels to the floor each time she stepped.
"Please, just let that one go." you said, still catching your breath.
Your mother looked up at you, unbothered, "No, I don't think I will. It really makes you question the morals of your so-called team mates, though. Doesn't it?"
You remained silent and lifted your gun, aiming it for the guard holding Peter's neck. As soon as you did that, the same guard began tightening his grip. Peter yelped in pain and you quickly lowered your stance.
"Ah, compassion. A trait I never really did have to teach you. It came naturally to you, same with your dad. He always put others first. That's why he had to go before we could start the project."
Rage boiled within you, but this was exactly what she wanted. She wanted you to explode and turn into Mercy, was it possible to switch off of pure anger alone? You didn't know and now was not the time to find out.
She watched you eagerly, anticipating an outburst, and she grew confused as you swallowed you anger and calmly smiled.
"Can you please just let him live, he's a kid." you said, digging your fingernails into your hands, likely drawing blood.
Before she could respond, Bucky and Sam stumbled in, a guard standing behind them with a gun and a remote.
"See that remote?" your mother spoke.
You silently nodded.
"One click, and you're dead. Or, it could kill the asset, he's still under our programming, too." That's what they were looking for earlier.
You gasped at the realization that they truly had all of you cornered. Your life, Peter's life, Bucky's life, all at the hands of ruthless soldiers.
"Or, the witch, or even Black Widow herself. They're all hydra, you think our main trackers are detectable? We're not that dumb, dear."
Sam gulped and him and Bucky looked around the room, assessing their resources. You weren't going down without a fight, it was only a matter of what you could use in it.
A few moments of silence were interrupted by Nat, Clint, Bruce, Tony, Wanda, Steve, and Vision, all physically on their own, but being forced by the threat of losing half of the team.
"Now that we're all here, welcome." your mother said in an annoyingly happy voice.
You looked over the team, Peter frozen with fear, Bucky and Sam still calculating a move, Wanda, Clint, Vision, Bruce and Nat all heads down, looking defeated. And Tony, who at first glance seemed scared for his life, but a wink and a smirk that you could've missed with a blink said otherwise.
"You're probably all very, very confused. I figured you would be. You're not as smart as you're made out to be. Nor are you as strong, or righteous, or loyal. You're a bunch of freaks that claim to play for justice, but it's really just your own selfish desires. You're no heroes, you just use what you can to lie." she spat.
"You." she began, facing Steve, "You're a scrawny child who wasn't good enough to fight, so you became a lab rat."
She next looked at Bruce, "You too, you're just a lab rat, well rat's aren't supposed to destroy as much as you do, but I guess gama rays change a guy."
She walked over to you and raised a hand, instinctively, you threw your hands into a defense position and ducked your head to flinch. "You're a scared little girl who can't remember who she is. I'll help you remember. You're Mercy, mass murderer."
"I'm y/n." you said sternly, eyes glued to the floor.
She laughed, "No, you're some avenger wannabe who forgets her own name after hearing a few random words.".
"Now, 'Earth's mightiest heroes' are going to die, because you couldn't just keep your emotions in check.
