Howdy! My names Emma and I'm a junior at Westfield high school! Im not a popular girl at all, I'm actually the very opposite. Im heavily involved in the drama and music departments at our school and people often pick on me for it. I have grown a thick skin over the years though and their words dont really affect me anymore.
Lucky for me, i have the most perfect best friend in the entire world who accepts me for me. Her names Ali. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Since i met her, my life has changed so much. I stopped thinking poorly of myself and my doctor removed me from depression counselors care because she was always there to encourage me. Ali is perfect.
Well she was perfect, that is till i ruined her life.

**Flashback-1 month ago**
"This one is for the boys with the booming system" we yelled jamming out to the Nicki Minaji song blaring on the radio.
We were coming home from wild friday night party at Ali's teammate Jackie's house. We had had so much fun, and we both had a little bit too much to drink that night.
"Oh my god Emma didn't Jake look sooooo hot tonight?!" Ali squealed.
Jake was Ali's extremely attractive summer flirting buddy. I knew she liked him even though she would always say it was nothing serious and that they were 'just friends', but i knew they were secretly hooking up when i turned my back.
"Oh my god Ali just date the boy already!" I slurred laughing at my drunk friend revealing her innermost secrets. She would totally regret this in the morning.
"Emma," Ali started trying to sound serious but failing due to her current state, "I would date Jake but he thinks we are only friends with benefits, but i don't want him to think I'm a slut because I'm not."
"I know you aren't Ali" i answered reassuringly.
"But he is good in bed" she continued giggling like a little school girl "and he's really hot Emma, but i don't just wanna be fuck buddies! I want him to be my boyfriend and i wanna do all the relationship crap like cuddling and going on dates. But i just really want him to win me a big stuffed bear at a fair! Is that too much to ask for?!" She continued whining like a little baby. She was really funny when she was drunk thats for sure.
"I think you should just call him and tell him even though you enjoy Jake Jr., that you would like the rest of him as well." I responded with what i thought was good advice at the time.
"Okay, but i need to sleep first." Ali said tiredly starting to close her eyes. "Are we almost at your house?" She asked yawning.
"Um almost just one more light." I answered stroking my friends head like she was a little puppy.
"Well hurry up!" She demanded in a high pitched voice.
"Well the lights red" i started but stopped when a pout appeared on her face. "You know its fine ill just do through it! YOLO" i shouted and before i knew it, we were flipped over and jammed up against a telephone pole.
The next thing i knew, the ambulance lights were shining and Ali was being carted away with a whole bunch of paramedics saying she might not make it. I was fine. When i went through the light, a car was coming from the other way and slammed into the passenger side of my car. Ali's body was crushed between a car and a telephone pole. I was lucky if i walked away with even a scratch.
Ali made it through though, but she was paralyzed from the waist down for the rest of her life. In that one moment of stupidity, i held my best friends fate in my hands and everyday i live with the guilt that it is my fault shes paralyzed. My fault shes wheelchair bound for life. My fault she will never be able to fulfill her dream of participating in the 2016 Olympics.
Lucky for me, there wasn't a moment Ali blamed me. There wasn't one second when she said i ruined her life and there wasn't a minute she turned her back on me. She has been so unbelievably strong through all the physical and mental pain i have put her through, and can still call me her best friend.
But there still isn't a day that goes by that i don't hate myself for making that one huge, stupid mistake. Everyday of my life, i wish i was the one who could paralyzed. Ali was perfect.
