Hiya! My names Ali and everyone at school knows me as the sweet bubbly southern belle. I have long blonde hair and clear blue eyes. Im not a popular girl but I'm basically friends with everyone because I'm such a social talkative person.

That is, everyone but arissa. We used to be best friends, but typical arissa cared more about boys than her friends. Her ex boyfriend made a move on me, behind the school, and arissa took his side over mine. I told him no and tried to push him off of me but he kissed me anyway. Arissa didn't believe me when i told her what actually happened. Thats okay though, i had other friends who i loved.

My best friend Emma is absolutely perfect. She is like a sister to me and we spend everyday together. Something has changed though...

Last month, emma and i were on our way home from a party. We were both drinking a little bit to celebrate my new track mile record, but we had no more than a beer each. If she wasn't capable of driving, i never would have gotten in the car with her. We were a block away from her house, when it happened.

I cant actually remember what exactly happened, but the next thing i knew i woke up in the hospital with a whole bunch of doctors chatting around me. The next thing i knew they were telling me i had gotten into a horrible car accident and was lucky to be alive.

In that instant, my world was turned upside down. I had been paralyzed from the waist down and never have the chance of walking again. Everything i have worked hard and long for, trained my whole life to do had been taken away in a blink of an eye. My dream of joining the 2016 olympics as a track and field star was crushed. I had nothing left to dream for.

It was hard at first, but over time i have learned to accept the fact that i will spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Everyday is a struggle and i have to learn new ways to do things that i had once taken for granted, but i am just thankful to be alive. Through everything that i have been through, i have grown to appreciate the value of life and the value of family and friends. Im lucky to be here and i thank God everyday for allowing me a second chance at life.
